Belk — Local services in Walterboro

Honestly, this must be the worst Belks in the entire chain! They carry only a fraction of what all the other Belk stores do, and - get this - THEY ARE THE ONLY DEPT. STORE IN THE ENTIRE COUNTY! (Colleton County, SC) Not just the only Belks, but the only department store, period! So does this even make sense? The District Mgr, with whom I have personally spoken to, cannot seem to get it through her head that a very large number of her potential customers are driving over to Belks in surrounding counties to do their shopping becz this particular Belks carries such limited merchandise - has only a slim fraction of the departments & brand names carried in all their other stores -

I literally have to drive into Summerville to Belks on Main St to find clothing for my slim-size adult son becz this Belks here in WB refuses to carry not just Slim sizes but size Small in their mens dept. Now what kind of dimwit makes these stupid decisions? Believe it or not, not every adult male in Walterboro is 40 lbs. overweight

The District Manager's lame excuse? "Oh, you can always order online what you can't find in the store" The reality? Her customers go elsewhere The sad part? Belks hires (or promotes) dummies like this to make these "executive decisions"

Quality? You won't find it here - 95% of their womens clothing is made out of cheap, China-made petroluem-based fabrics - because this store refuses to carry the better-quality brands available at all other Belks; if you want cotton or wool, you can always go to the men's dept. & buy a pair of socks

Price? Do yourself a favor & do some comparison shopping at the cheaper stores in town - I have found IDENTICAL products & the same exact brands elsewhere in town for 1/5th the price

The good part? Customer service here is excellent, but that definitely does not stop me from driving down the street to Rose's Variety Store & buying the exact same identical dress for $12 instead of $68

Am I complaining? Isn't that what these reviews are for? Since the District Manager is not addressing the problems of her Walterboro store, maybe someone at a higher level will read this review and-- 'Wake Up & Smell the Coffee' here in this town, altho since there are no Starbucks in the entire county, that's a little...

If I could give zero stars I would. Went to get a pair of men's shoes. Spoke to a female employee that told me to find the ones I wanted and she would look in the back for size. Found the size and showed her.Waited for over 20 minutes to her not returning. Found her ringing up someone else and her waiting for them to go get more things. When we left not one person asked if we found anything. Wound up going to shoe show and was treated with the most upmost respect and walked out with a pair. I will never step back into this Belk again if that's how you treat certain people. I may look young but I am 22 years old and was nothing but respectful to the associate. Train the employees...

In the past three weeks, I have been to 3 different Belk stores to shop and all 3 stores look like they are going out of business. Inventory levels are really low and brand names such as Columbia and Izod are being replaced with brands such as Ocean Coast (judging by inventory levels). I also wanted to buy my son a bottle of Polo spray. They did not have any sprays and only a few bottles of the actual cologne. All of the colognes were similarily stocked.
