Barrel House Grille — Restaurant in Walterboro

We came into town to get affairs in order/see family as a military couple rarely able to come home and wanted some good food to eat other than fast food for our visit and ended up regretting ever ordering from here . Paid $68 for the worst service I’ve ever had from a to go server. I’ve had bad service at a restaurant before but I’ve never been spoken to like I have today from a server . When we ordered our food she was extremely sweet but didn’t tell us the price if so I would’ve canceled before I even placed it . When we arrive (25 mins after order was placed) I let my husband go in to pick up the food I waited over 35 minutes in the car before I went inside to figure out why we didn’t have our food yet . The bartender went to find the server and the food was on the back table the entire time we waited . I asked “well why did no one say anything” and the bartender replied “I did tell her she just didn’t hear me” and the server rudely said “I was busy with a table” mind you the place was dead . I replied that we’ve been waiting here over 30 minutes and it’s been well more than an hour since the food was placed and it’s now cold . I was across the restaurant at the door but I did hear the server tell my husband “bitching” “I was busy” and talking smack about me because I was upset about the food being cold. She charged my husband and never gave him his card back and he forgot it. I called back after feeling the food was extremely cold and old and asked to speak to a manager the person that answered said there was no manager on duty and when I asked what time would a manager be there she stated that I could speak to the bartender and put me on hold for one minute before she hung up. My husband called back and asked to speak to a manager (someone else answered) and this person stated that she was the manager on duty and after discussing with her if I came back they would remake the food we ordered . I came back and got the food and my husband card . Server had me check the food and mentioned several times “let’s make sure it’s right because I don’t want you having to come back here” rudely . When we got back to the hotel we realized we also never got our drinks and I was not going back and eat cold food and deal with a rude server and we haven’t ate since breakfast at 9am and this was after 6pm . So we had to eat our food with difficulty because we had nothing to drink it with . I will never come back and with the awful service we got and missing items $68 bill with $10 being automatic gratuity is not worth the meal . I've gotta say this is a very easily missed location and what might be considered from the outside a small local pub.

well, whatever it might be, it is definitely delicious and deceptively larger on the inside.

it's got a full bar, about 12 TV's stationed properly around the perimeter and the background music was a nice mix of modern country and pop, not too loud.

we are new visitors to the area and decided to give this lil place a try for dinner.

we were a party of 7 and we ate like it.

our waitress Kayla (apologies if I spelled it wrong) was super attentive, all smiles and southern charm and did not hesitate to recommend various dishes that she herself enjoyed.

she knew her menu, handled substitutions without batting an eye, and made us all feel happy to be there. there were no mistakes in any of our orders, Kayla was simply a pro.

the burgers were perfectly cooked and dressed, the king size steak was made for a king, the fries are actual steak cut and excellently fried and well seasoned, the various sandwiches we had were good sized and tasty af! wings and sauces were on point (mango habanero was OMG good!)

I would consider the prices fair for the amount of food and great service you get. we will MOST DEFINITELY turn up here again on our next trip to...

Food was completely inedible. The steak tasted like propane and was grisly, gamey and over cooked. The mashed potatoes were obviously boxed and tasted like dishwasher. The brown gravy tasted like salt and nothing else. The "salad" was lettuce and croutons, which were tasteless, and the Caesar dressing basically tasted like thick vinegar. I was starving after a long day driving down the coast and I couldn't choke it down. After spending more than $50 at the restaurant, I kind of expected to receive food that I could at least eat, instead I had to eat the ham and cheese I had for snacks in my cooler.

When I called the restaurant, I couldn't understand the person who answered the phone (drunk maybe?) and the "manager" basically said it wasn't her problem and that door dash leaves the food forever (the food was delivered hot and the dasher was AWESOME). Basically it was everyone else's fault that their food sucks instead of grossly inferior ingredients and their obvious ineptitude. Not sure how they're even in business. Wouldn't send my worst enemy to this place.

Luckily, door dash actually knows what customer service is and has people who are actually willing to help and act like they've actually interacted with the public in their lifetime....
