Who would have thought that getting a haircut could be so much fun? I wasn’t even planning on getting one! As it happened, my wife and I were invited to a friend’s house where three of the ladies were scheduled to get various stylings, colors, and cuts from Mitchell, with help from the amazing Juan. I simply tagged along for the company of my friends, the food and the libations. Next thing I know, Mitchell is chatting it up with all of us, asking us questions, telling us stories, and genuinely interested in everything around him. This isn’t his job, it’s his life. He truly loves what he does and he’s amazing at it. With over three decades of experience, He can take one look at you and know exactly how to maximize yourlook. He’s not judgmental, in fact, he’s very encouraging and helpful, but make no mistake. He knows his stuff. I told him I was experimenting with growing my hair a bit longer and he told me how giving me a trim could actually make my hair appear longer While adding texture and a purposeful look. It wasn’t just talk. He actually made me excited to see what he could do. After Juan gave me a relaxing shampoo and also engaged me in fun conversation, Mitchell went to work. He talked about the shape of my head and face, and made measurements from the corner of my eye around the width of my head leading up to the top. He stretched my hair and observed the natural bend point, educating me about hair weight and follicle thickness, And before I knew it, a few snips here and a bit of product there, I was shocked to discover that he was finished! I had barely sat down and I was having so much fun I didn’t want to get up. And the best part? It didn’t look like I got a haircut. It looked like I had a natural head of the longest hair I ever sported, and it’s never looked better. Not only is he now my go-to hair person, I actually think I may have made a new friend! How amazing is that? Also, it was the first time I’ve ever been to a haircutting party - what a blast! Apparently, he does these all the time, and I can’t tell you how much fun it was. I moved to Walterboro just recently. I was looking for a new stylist that used Aveda products. I have curly hair with dry ends, after talking with Mitchell, I was sure I had found my place. I told him I wanted to book a service that would smooth & de-frizz my hair. I had used the Keratin treatment & Brazilian blow out in the past.{neither of which damaged my hair} He assured me he was "The Best" with curly hair & I would be able to allow my hair to dry naturally limiting my style time & heat. First let me say, Mitchell is a constant show boat & talks about his greatness constantly. He was friendly, but constantly answered the phone throughout my appointment. I did ask three times what he was going to use, he never gave me a straight answer. After listening to his lifetime of accomplishments & the clients that come from all over for his service I settled in for the two hours. He never mentioned my ends needed to be trimmed. He disappeared returning with his "liquid gold" & painted on my hair( I did smell a faint smell perm solution.) I had an instant flash back of Cosmetology school in High school when a girlfriend fried my hair before the Prom straightening my hair. That was in 1982). After the second pass of the process, he washed my hair & dried my hair. My hair was stick straight no body at all ! It was not until I got home I saw the damage to my hair. The ends were super dry, my hair was breaking off when brushed! I washed my hair used an Aveda treatment to try and stop the breaking. I left the hair to dry naturally then cried. At least 5 inches of damage, my hair still had frizzy curls underneath straight on top with singed ends ! What a mess, I was so upset. Thanksgiving was the following day, It took lots extra time, heat & rolling ends over just to hide this botched Job! Any woman with curly hair knows how hard we work to protect our ends. I wish I could just cut it all off & start over. Unfortunately, short hair isn't what I like for myself. I cannot in good faith recommend Mitchell for anything. I will not return to this salon nor send any...

These talented professionals have been running Salon 401 for years, and their expertise and dedication to client care truly shows.

During my recent visit for some much-needed relaxation, I witnessed firsthand just how professionally Mitchell and Juan handle challenging situations. They've unfortunately had to take on the additional responsibility of monitoring their parking lot due to ongoing issues with neighboring businesses. Even when faced with an extremely disrespectful individual who was violating posted parking restrictions and later called the salon with inappropriate behavior, both Mitchell and Juan maintained the utmost professionalism and grace.

It's unfortunate that small business owners like these have to deal with such unnecessary stress while trying to provide exceptional service to their clients. Despite these external challenges, my experience was flawless, and the level of care and attention I received was outstanding.

Salon 401 deserves your business and your respect. Mitchell and Juan are true professionals who go above and beyond for their clients, even in difficult circumstances. I highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for top-quality service delivered with genuine care and professionalism.
