Took the Bottle opener class with the wonderful folks below. Our instructor, Carl (with a “C”), was a fantastic tutor. He blended his humor and wit with his genuine love for the art. The environment was killer, the sound of the students pounding their iron into shape was fantastic. Carl brings 40 years of experience to the class, and with that experience as an artist and teacher, every step of the class lead flawlessly into the next. This class truly exists to introduce people to the magnificent art of smithing and was hosted by a master of the craft. If you have 2 minutes after class, Carl will teach you how to dance.

Do yourself a favor and invest in a Blacksmith Workshop with Carl at Prospect Hill Forge. It was like becoming a trade apprentice with everyone’s favorite teacher. Carl was so kind and generous with his time and expertise, while also being hilariously entertaining, attentive, inclusive, and helpful. He offered a wealth of knowledge about the art, science, skill, and history of blacksmithing all while you are actually forging iron with your bare hands. I’ll definitely be signing up for a follow-up class!

Can't recommend enough! Just took the Sunday 630 pm class and made a super cool bottle opener! I'm pretty neurodivergent and have a hard time remembering instructions and the instructor Carl never made me feel stupid! The class was broken down into manageable parts, it was funny and informative, a combination of history, skill, and socializing! Can't wait to take another

If you are looking for a special activity, something you have not done before, this workshop is absolutely a top rated one. We have just completed one of the introduction classes and had a blast! First, you learn a lot about blacksmithing, the philosophy behind it. Carl is not just a blacksmith, he is also an artist and worked with many different materials like glass or metal, and he is an actor, which makes the whole workshop quite entertaining.

But beyond the presentation, you really feel like you entered a medieval time, doing everything from scratch on your own (and the majority of the tools are hand-made by Carl and his crew!).

You leave with a magical feeling, an empowered "I can do that too" and a tool that you...

Partner treated me to a class here, a taste of blacksmithing, and it was really fun. The smith who was teaching, Carl, is a natural entertainer/storyteller - never felt unsafe during the class, and walked away feeling like I learned tangible knowledge to bring to future classes or other forges.

If you're window shopping places to take a class, note that the price for an intro class here is pretty affordable, it's a somewhat small space so you'll get individualized attention/coaching, and despite all the steps and safety measures that go into re-forming steel, you'll never feel overwhelmed.

Only wish there were open forge hours to come and pay to mess around with a hunk of steel, but otherwise this place is...

Want to try out blacksmithing, but unable to find classes because of COVID? No problem!

Carl did a "Forge-to-Go" session (he brings the forges, anvils, and everything else that is needed) for myself and 3 others. We were outdoors, distanced, and wearing masks. The class was great. We learned a lot, got a taste for the art/trade, and had fun.

Carl is just a fun guy to be around and a solid and patient teacher. It is obvious that he tries to think about what questions he would ask or what he would want to see if he were the student.

Make your pandemic suck a little less while still staying safe; arrange a "Forge-to-Go" session with Carl. You won't regret it, and if you are like me, you...
