WordPlay — Local services in Wardensville

We decided to road trip to anywhere and stumbled upon this wonderful town filed with extraordinary people. The owners of this intimate, generous little Indie bookstore are simply the most kind and welcoming folks we have met in our travels so far. Tom and Marlene welcomed, not just my husband and I but our 10 week old puppy, as if we were family. The store itself is in a lovely green building, boasted by a very comfortable porch style outdoor seating area where all are welcome and inclusion without judgement is a way of life rather than a sought after idea. The store shelves are lined with new and old titles, local authors work, games, and lots of little unexpected cute finds. There is a nice variety of titles on just about every topic, the children and teens section are most notable. Also worth mentioning, this little piece of magic participates in a non-profit program to encourage local youth to read at home. Bringing local authors in to meet the kids, participating in the, “Where is Waldo” small town campaign, offering discounts for reading and participation in activities, (for children) and welcoming everyone with such incredible kindness, Marlene and Tom go above and beyond to increase literacy awareness and bring books...

I always stop at Wordplay and buy books whenever I am visiting Wardensville, West Virginia on vacation. The owner Marlene is so sweet, friendly, and knowledgeable about books, I really enjoyed talking with her during one of my visits there. I also love the overall vibe of the bookstore and all the community outreach and programming they organize for the greater Wardensville community! I make it a habit to support them through Bookshop.org whenever I am not in town!

Stopped in while passing through Wardensville and am so happy I did! This bookstore offers so many unique finds ! A fabulous selection of books and friendly staff will definitely have me coming back. If you are looking for a cozy bookstore, packed with tons of goodies, anddddd attached to a cafe, you have found the perfect spot!!! Cannot wait to come back next time I am in town.
