This is a long review, but if you are considering having Ken's install a radio in your vehicle, it will be worth the read. My husband purchased a new radio for my SUV in Dec. 2014. The install date was set for January 2015. On the FIRST visit, I took it in and they kept my vehicle from about 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with no word from them. Finally, I called. They said come get it before we close, itâll be ready. Got there and it wasnât ready; had to go eat dinner and then return. Anyhow, when they presented it to me, the steering wheel controls would not work correctly. So, I made another appointment. To make a really long and trying story a little shorter, I made appointments and went back, to the store 4 more times over the next two months to see if they could rectify the situation. They order various parts that were supposed to make it work. The salesperson I had to deal with was nice at first, but as I was insistent that I wanted my new $1,000 piece of equipment to work correctly, he became very condescending. I honestly believe he thought I was making it up and just trying to be difficult. I even had to take my old radio up there for them to plug it in so I could prove what the controls were supposed to do. I talked with the install tech at length. Anyway, the result was that they basically gave up since they had no idea how to make it work. At this point, I seriously doubt there was any real troubleshooting going on. I think they were tired of me because I was an astute customer and they just wanted me to go awayâat least thatâs how they made me feel. (And, during all of this, I have to say I agree with another reviewer that the professionalism is certainly lacking at the front counter. The young lady that says âsweetie,â âsugar pieâ and âhoney bunchâ as every other word may think sheâs being nice, but sheâs over the top and this complete over-use of terms of endearment is inappropriate in any place of work, except maybe waffle house.) Back to the radioânot even four months later, I began having problems with reception for the satellite radio. It would go out sporadically and give me the error message to âcheck antenna.â Well, I certainly did not want to have to deal with these people again, so I put up with the sporadic outages for months until it became a semi-permanent outage. I called Kenâs this past January to have them look at it. I was told warranty would not cover it because I had it two yearsânot true. The installation was completed only one year earlier. The whole December purchase thing confused them apparently. Anyhow, they said it would $85 just to LOOK AT IT! Then, if it needed repair, that would be applied to the cost of the new antenna, which was quoted over the phone as $99. Ridiculous! I knew it would probably take more time than it was worth so about a week ago, I called Audio Zoo. These guys are great! They quoted the price for a new antenna--$39! And, diagnosis and installation of said tuner would be $25-$45, depending on my vehicle. First off, much better prices! They got me in very quickly and had the radio working in less than an hour. It turns out the tuner was bad (it was the original and probably should have been updated when the radio was installed), which cost $69.99, but Audio Zoo gave me a $70 mail-in rebate for the equipment. And hereâs the BIG KICKER to the storyâremember all that trouble I described about my steering wheel controls? Well, I had not mentioned this to Audio Zoo. I had resigned myself to the fact they would never work again. But when the Audio Zoo rep called me back, he said âoh and we plugged in your steering wheel controls. They werenât plugged in.â It was that simple!! A 15-minute fix that took me four trips and hours of my time and days at work without a vehicle, thanks to the incompetent install crew at Kenâs. As other posters have said, I wonât go back there either. Audio Zoo of Warner Robins has surely earned all of our...
Read moreI went into Kens 3 weeks ago. I purchased a radio and backup camera for my VW, a radio and backup camera for my Jeep, and an amp and sub for my Ram. They told me that install was 2 weeks out. I said thatâs fine and just asked for the next time they had 3 days in a row, I would like to drop off the car leave it over night pick it up the next morning when I drop off the Jeep, then leave the Jeep overnight until I drop off the Ram and pick the Ram up around lunchtime because it was only going to take a couple of hours. I was told that would not be an issue. I drop the Jeep off day 2 and get the VW, the camera is upside down hanging off of the lower screws, the USB to use car play is under the dash on the drivers side and no place that is useable and the mic does not work to make hands free calls. Also the Jeep camera did not come in but I was not told until I dropped it off, so now I have to have 2 appointments to get everything installed. Fast forward I take the VW back up to get fixed on Saturday because nothing worked and to drop the truck off. They call and tell me the car is ready and the truck will be done after lunch. I called back at 3 and they said my truck will be done at 6, they close at 6. I get there at 555 and it is not done, I wait around until 7 to get it. When I go to look at what was done, I looked at the sub and asked where is the amp that was supposed to be mounted under the back seat where I asked for it to be mounted, the manager said well itâs under the drivers seat, he said thatâs where we always put them, I said thatâs not where I asked for it to be put. I was told I could make a second appointment to get it moved. So I get 2 day install on all my vehicles now, wow what a deal. Now back to the Jeep, when I drop it off on Friday I ask if I leave it to get the radio how log to get the camera added on the next trip. Manager tells me it will be quick because they are going to run all the wires, I said fine just do that and you can throw on the camera when it comes in. Now to today my wife drops off the Jeep they tell her it is going to take a while to install the camera so it wonât be ready until this afternoon. I call and talk to the manager and question why will it take so long it is pre wired and the camera mounts behind the wheel lugs. He said well thatâs right but we have 8 cars ahead of you. ???? I asked him really? Can you not knock it out, he said he would get the Jeep back as one of the first few cars......it is now 230 Really after the disaster this has turned out to be, you would think they would do the camera first thing. But I guess I expect too much. Absolutely the worst customer service I have...
Read moreI was super hesitant to write a review two years after the fact⌠but I felt my experience with Kenâs Audio needed to be brought to light.
I came to Kenâs for a full sound system upgrade in my 2021 Ram 1500 with premium audio. Staff was courteous and knowledgeable. Install was scheduled with no issues. Install details were as follows: Alpine Type-R 6.5 component speakers in the front doors Alpine Type-R 6X9âs in the rear doors 2 Alpine Type-R 10 subs under the rear seat DD Audio D4 amp to power the interior speakers Rockford Fosgate amp to power the subs
The install took 2.5 days (much longer than I expected. But if itâs done right, I donât mind the wait). When I arrived to pick up my truck, they handed me my keys and said thanks. There was no explanation of what was done, or any walk-thru of the install. The next morning, when it was light out, I looked around my truck to see what had been done, and immediately noticed that there were: Wire clippings everywhere Cut zip ties in my floorboard A screwdriver left in my console Loose and hanging wires under the glove compartment Amps mounted under the front seats when I specifically asked for them to be mounted on the wall behind the rear seats Wires showing that had been run along the sides of the truck
I took my truck back to Kenâs and they tucked some of the wires on the spot. Great. I decided to live with the other issues rather than take more time off work to get them fixed.
Fast forward two years. Iâve retired from the Air Force and moved away from Warner Robins. My stereo is having issues (not Kenâs fault). I went to a shop in my new town for troubleshooting and in the process of doing that I asked if both amps could be moved to the rear wall. They said no problem.
After speaking to the installer, after the amps were moved, he highlighted all of the corners that were cut by Kenâs. My Rockford Fosgate amp was mounted under the passenger seat using 2â drywall screws right through the floor. Cables were poorly routed, and overlapped. The grounds were put in using self tapping screws through the floor as well. Overall, It was a sloppy install.
Being two years after the install, Iâm not expecting anything from Kenâs. My intent is to bring attention to the fact that I brought my brand new (at the time) $75k truck to them with the expectation of PREMIUM work, and I paid them a premium price⌠And that was not delivered. Buyer beware. Iâm happy to discuss specifics, as my new installer has done an excellent job of documenting...
