December 4, 2022, around 12:10 pm, I stopped at the new Lidl store off Alabama Avenue SE to use my two gift cards and got totally frustrated, and aggravated, while shopping in this store - not to mention verbally threatened by the female's cashier tone on isle # 5!!! I purchased about seven items, and paid for them, but wanted to check the price on a pair of tennis shoes for my man. I asked the female cashier on isle # 3 was it ok to leave my items on the counter while I run and do a quick check. She said yes. It took about 5 or 6 minutes, and when I got back, all of my items were gone except the ankle boots. I asked the female cashier on isle # 1 where was the cashier from isle # 3, and what happened to my things. She didn't know. I asked the cashier on isle # 5 the same thing, and she informed me that she had put them all back, but will go get them. Ok, fine. I waited a few minutes when I noticed that the cashier had about 4 people in her line and they were still coming bcuz there are only 2 cashiers working. I asked cashier # 5 do I have to wait until she clear her line of all the customers to get my things? She said yes, or you can go get them yourself. What the heck? Frustrated, I asked why isn't there communication between the cashiers when one is leaving their station, putting back items, etc., etc., she got irritated with me and said aggressively, "I'm not gonna let you keep talking to me about this..."then I asked to speak to a supervisor. His name was Mike. I explained to him my situation, and he took my receipt to retrieve my items. As I listened to cashier # 5 discuss my issue with other customers, the girl from isle # 3 returned, and now both her and the supervisor are retrieving my items without talking to one another. I was so aggravated and frustrated until I wanted to put everything back! But bcuz I felt my pressure going up, I decided to just take my few items and go!!! What an experience! The cashier woman on isle 5 with her hair in a ponytail was very aggressive towards me when she was the one who caused...
Read moreI hate how much wasted potential is in this store.
It’s been open for about a year, maybe? Yet, it feels like they don’t hold it to a high standard. I go in there, and it can be a mess, the frozen foods usually look wiped, the tags aren’t always there, they always seem short staffed. I was shopping the other day, and they had their workers doing inventory by hand with sticky pads, instead of computers, or hiring a inventory team to count for them. Just wasting labor.
For a store that was branded by the Mayor to be for the community, they sure as hell let it fall to being another ghetto grocery store. As much as I hate Whole Foods or Harris Teeter prices, they hold their stores to a higher standard in terms of presentation and cleanliness.
The wine area is ridiculous, and I can tell they have no idea what they’re doing. Certain reds aren’t supposed to be chilled, but they have a whole section full of cold red wines. The cold wines section should theoretically be filled with sweet wines, because that’s the prime demographic of that area, but whoever is in charge of that just loads it with dry wines that aren’t supposed to be cold.
Other than that, I run across the same issues at every Lidl. Supply isn’t always there to match the demand on sale items. Items can just up and disappear, and be removed from their sets. It’s frustrating to find a product you like, and it just vanishes so quickly, but that’s a supplier issue more than the actual store.
I don’t want to see this store not be successful for how great the prices are, and how great it can be for the area, but clean up some of the mess. I shouldn’t walk in there, and the aisles are full of trash, there should be more staff on hand, instead of torturing the few that are there, and I get tired of only 1 line being open.
We deserve better...
