Of the dozen mattress stores we visited on a recent shopping adventure, I think this is the only one where some of the floor models were a bit dirty, and things were a bit cramped and disorganized in the back. When we arrived, a delivery driver was having a long and somewhat hilarious conversation with the owner about how 5G causes cancer. Selection is not as good as at Raymour and Flanigan or Mattress Firm (e.g. you wouldn't be able to try Purple or Tempur-Pedic), but they do have adjustable models. If you're just looking for something conventional and comfortable and are uninterested in overpaying for a luxury model, this is a good local alternative to the national chains.

The owner did have helpful suggestions about which mattresses to try, though while we did so said a lot of things which got me wondering, "is that true, or is it just something he says to customers or read in an online mattress rumor mill?" In general, I wouldn't trust anything a mattress salesperson tells you about the health effects or quality of a mattress; we found Consumer Reports' online ratings extremely helpful and more objective. Having procrastinated over choosing a bed frame for far too long, I dropped into Watertown Mattress on a whim to see what they had. From the start Mike and the sales guy (Therone, I think, sorry if I got your name wrong!) made me feel comfortable and welcome and didn't pressure me into making a decision. I ended up ordering a frame from a catalog as they didn't have the style and colour I wanted in-store. Price was very reasonable and they had it available for delivery in just over a week. Delivery was excellent - I had a 3 hour delivery window, the guys called me half an hour in advance and arrived right on time. The delivery team were excellent, they put the bed together for me in less than 30 minutes, which would have taken me hours to do on my own, and had a great attitude - they clearly have a lot of fun working together. This is hands down the best place to get a mattress in the Boston area. We went in to upgrade our full to a queen and were lucky enough to be helped by the owner Mike. He knows everything about mattresses and truly wants his customers to get the best mattress for them - at the best possible price. We fell in love with a Simmons world class luxury mattress, but wanted to shop around at a few other places before we bought it. We found a similar mattress (also Simmons world class luxury) for a higher price at a major mattress chain; when we quoted the manager there the price from Watertown beds, he said "Go right back there and buy that mattress. You will never find a better price for such a good bed." True story!
