Signature Male Spa and Salon — Local services in Waukee

The haircut was great, but the experience and price was TERRIBLE. I walked in early just to work on any paperwork there may be as a new client. I waited about 20-25 minutes past my appointment time until Brittany came out and got me. No one even mentioned they were running late so I was just sitting there. She was dressed unprofessionally in a tie-dye shirt with drug paraphernalia and low rise jeans that showed things I didn't want to see every time she bent over. There was a girl (another worker there) getting her hair done and they were talking and gossiping loudly. This salon was advertised as a relaxed, laid back men's only salon and this was not what I was wanting. Brittany kept on swearing and saying snide comments about her coworker while I was in my chair. I just went with it because I felt uncomfortable and never want to piss anyone off while they're working on my hair. I researched the prices ahead of time and the signature cut/style was advertised as $33 and a highlight was $27 from the website. After 2.5 hours for highlights just on my bangs and a cut (there was no scalp massage and she was so rough when she was drying my hair it hurt) she checked me out at a total of $136.96. I just wanted to get the heck out of there so I paid it, but this was not the $60 I was expecting. Before checking out she asked if I was paying in cash because she could cut me a deal and I thought that was weird. Then she charges me that total!!! I had my card out just ready to go because I THOUGHT i knew the price I was expecting and then she took the card without giving me the total, ran it up and asked me to sign. I tipped her $20 because right at the end of the haircut she mentioned all the hardships she was going through without a car and having to pay $10,000 for her sisters lawyer. If I don't get a call back from a manager on Monday I will most definitely be calling in to rectify the overcharge and get a refund. Overall this was AN AWFUL experience. The only positive I got from it was my haircut and with how long I was there, the price and experience even that wasn't worth it. I do not recommend this...

I visited Signature Male of Des Moines (Waukee) at 7:14 PM on Wednesday (Oct 26) only to be rudely turned away because the stylist who was working probably wanted to go home. You go to a place like this and pay the extra money due to a higher level of expected service. However, I must say that I've gotten better service at a Great Clips.

Several online sources showed that Signature Male was scheduled to remain open until 8pm on the evening of my visit, and there was no holiday or special circumstance warranting an early closure. Nevertheless, I called them around 7 PM to get an idea of how busy they were. No one answered the phone.

I quickly drove over to Signature Male and walked in by 7:14 PM. The stylist at the entrance happened to be vaccuming. She looked at me with nothing but disappointment that I had walked in. There was no smile or welcome; just a cold reply, "we close at 7:30" [PM]. I reminded her that I called earlier but no one answered. She offered to take an appointment for the next day. I declined. There was no apology, and no reason provided for the early closure, or the lack of phone answering.

This was my first visit to Signature Male. I was planning on buying a voucher for over $250 worth of services. However, they lost out on that money forever. I will be taking my business to another competing male salon where it is welcomed and appreciated--even 30 or 45 minutes before closing time!

This stylist (knowingly or unwittingly) turned down a good amount of money and potentially long-term patronage. I may or may not visit this salon in the future, but the money they lost on this particular trip is...

Signature Male has stood the test of time as the original male salon in the Jordan Creek area with the perfect amount of country club swagger.

I recommend speaking with Melissa the owner if you need direction on your particular hairstyle. She may even recommend a specific stylist (and worth checking out may I add). Melissa fits the mold, she's very professional and always takes good care of her customers. She does an excellent job with my hair and gives me the business look I need to close a deal. Hospitality is second to none with ice cold beer on the house as a courtesy upon your arrival. Check this place out if you are overdue for a cut!
