Shopper beware!! Sent numerous family and friends to see Jim over the 20+ years, not sure what is going on, but quality has been less than top-notch. My ring prongs have come back sharp. Went to "upgrade" a ring bought from him ($7000), but he would not take it back. Found out from appraiser it was a synthetic diamond - not worth as much as his appraisal. Disappointed and want to warn people. After telling a few friends of our situation, they informed me they too had similar stories but did not want to hurt our feelings because I swore by his work. I went to Barnes because the reviews were good and initially was somewhat concerned as the shop is somewhat messy and not as clean as I would like. However it was very clear as he evaluated my ring that he was knowledgeable and based on the reviews I had him put butterfly Springs into both my wedding band and engagement band.
