ECBG Cake Studio — Local services in West Chicago Township

I really wanted to like it but it was not for me. But before I get to all of that I wanted to talk about the positives aspects of this business. I found this place doing a google search and noticed it had a lot of positive reviews. The cakes on their website looked really pretty and professional too so I decided to give it a try. The person I communicated with was Kelly. We spoke through email in which she responded really quickly. She was very nice and helpful during the ordering process. She even gave me a little bit of a discount on my order. They do not take down payments and I could not get a taste sample (I am not sure if they even offer taste samples) because the place is too far from where I live. I literally just had to trust that everything works out because this cake was not cheap. The cake was ready on time and looked how I wanted it to, especially given the fact that I described it through email and used some reference pictures; I was really impressed (note: I added the chocolates and toppers to the cake myself, those were not apart of my order).

Now for why I gave it only 2 stars 😅. The cake as you can see in the pictures was falling apart in the inside on one side of the cake. You know how you try to take the cake out the pan while it's hot and part of it is still stuck to the pan but you can still take it out and piece it together? That's what it reminded me of. Also my cake was suppose to have strawberry filling with strawberry pieces. As you can see it was not much filling in the cake and the strawberry pieces are very small. And the last reason why the cake was not to my liking was because the cake was more on the drier side and tasted like sugary walnuts (not trying to be funny). I ordered a vanilla cake but the cake did not taste like vanilla at all. It had a strong nutty taste as if they used some type of nut flour or abstract and it was extremely sweet. I did however really liked the buttercream frosting they used.

Planning for a wedding can be a very stressful time, especially picking out vendors, but when it came time to choose our cake baker, the decision was easy, ECBG Cake Studio. I first ordered one of their pies awhile back for Thanksgiving and thought it was delicious, so I began following the owner, Erin, on social media and the baked goods that she kept producing blew me away. She not only creates beautiful treats, but makes them taste out of this world. I ended up doing a 5 tier cake with a different flavor cake and filling for each layer. Erin helped me put together what she thought would taste best together because I loved everything and my guests were blown away by the taste of each tier. It was so good that there was nothing left for my husband and I to take home. Erin was wonderful with us throughout the entire process. I found ECBG Cake Studio online while searching for a wedding cake and decided to trust the great reviews and so glad I did! We ordered a two-tier cake (strawberry with strawberry ganache on top, chocolate with chocolate ganache on the bottom) and both flavors were delicious. Super moist, not too sweet, just right. I couldn’t stop eating it!

The design turned out perfect and matched the couple's wedding theme beautifully. Even before we cut into it, guests were already asking where we got it, and once they had a bite, everyone loved it.

💡Tip: When we picked up the cake, we were told to keep it at room temperature for at least 6 hours. We ended up keeping ours out for almost 8 hours, and I really think that’s what made it extra moist. I saw a few reviews mention their cakes were dry, but ours definitely wasn’t!

Yes, it’s a bit pricey, but so worth it for the quality and taste. Ordering online was super easy, and the team responded quickly to our emails.
