BoxLunch — Local services in West Des Moines

I visited BoxLunch at the Jordan Creek Town Center and found several wonderful gifts, showcasing the store's great selection of unique and interesting items. However, my overall positive shopping experience was somewhat overshadowed by the checkout process.

Firstly, the store appeared to be understaffed at the checkout counters. Despite there being a long line, only one cashier was actively checking out customers, while another employee was present at a second register but not assisting with the checkout process. This led to a longer waiting time than necessary, which could be frustrating for customers, especially during busy shopping periods.

Additionally, when it was my turn to checkout, the cashier asked for my phone number without providing any context. When I inquired about the reason for this request, I didn't receive a clear answer. It seemed like it might have been related to a rewards program, but this wasn't communicated. A simple explanation or asking if I was a member of their rewards program, or if I'd like to join, would have made the request more understandable and less intrusive.

As a person using a mobility device, aka a rolling walker, I struggle going into stores that have lots of little items. This store’s aisles and places to walk through were immaculate snd easy to navigate. A lot of times, I skip shopping in similar stores, because my mobility device is a hinderance, and I can’t safely shop the store. When I was there on April 4th, 2025, I was able to safely shop and look with no issues or assistance needed, which rarely happens. The people working were extremely helpful and kind. This is a store of collectible items and you can get lost in the store. You can find collectibles from every team text Rick and Morty or sailor Moon or whatever you can think of and you'll definitely find it here.
