Desk service and setting up appointment and repair was fine. They generally know how to talk to client's, and it helps I know enough about computers to know what issue I had, just not the means to fix it. My laptop's keyboard had become unresponsive. The hinge had become disconnected somehow, and was pinching the cable. Not only that, but the screen casing was breaking open, and the screen itself cracked. I can build PC's, but laptops are not something I have the means or know-how to fix on my own. Geek squad took the part in. Fixed it. Bill was about what I expected, but they got it up and going again. We've had the fix for little over a month now and I'm not particularly thrilled. The computer feels significantly slower than when we left it. The screen itself has a handful of different display issues, including flashing on and off. I can even feel the casing behind the screen smush in, which it never did before. The hinges also leave a gap now between both halves of the device, which makes me think the parts used were either not OEM or not installed well. Either way, while fixed, this definitely feels like a temporary fix at best, and I'm concerned the device is going to fail sooner than I'd have liked. Had I known this would be the result, I'd have taken my money elsewhere. And I'm probably done buying laptops and will just stick to building what I need to work on. Least I can fix those...
Read moreTotal Tech seems like a great investment until you have to actually deal with The Geek Squad. I first made an appt to take our Macbook in for updating. First available was about 4 days out. We went to the location at our scheduled time(5pm). We are told that the person to help us with our request isn't available after 5pm and we need to either bring it back the next day or check it in. We went back the next day and lo and behold but they couldn't help us without checking it in and said it would take 5-6 days. We get notified they are done. We go pick it up, take it home and the password has been changed with no information on what it is or how to sign in. Read moreAlthough the guy was nice, he brushed me off when I needed to get the fan in my computer replaced. Told me they weren't certified to open it and they would have to send it to a service center and it would be 2-3 weeks. I told him I've had 2 other Geek Squads tell me they would do it and he told me I should take them up on their offer to work on my computer uncertified. He then said they've had a bunch of check in's today and couldn't fit me in at all. I took it to the Best Buy in Ankeny and they happily took it and are repairing it for me. They just lost business.
