We recently retired to Lansing. Our son graduated from Appalachian University and we fell in love with the area. We moved from a metro area population of over 2 million to boost the population of Lansing from 128 to 130. My blood pressure dropped dramatically and I no longer need to take my BP meds. Going to the movies here harkens back to the more golden era of cinema houses with twin small theartes and uber nuance. The smell upon entering took my breath away as well as taking me away to my childhood haunts when I used to sneak into the theater in Elmora and watch whatever was playing, then riding my bike back home as fast as I could coming up with some lie to tell my mom where'd I been all afternoon. Sure, it isn't reclining stadium seating with "rich Corinthian leather" seats. Sure, someone won't take your order for some decent pub fair and deliver it to your seat which has a small folding side desk type table. Alcoholic beverages included. Your shoes won't stick to the floor, the seating is comfortable for a 2 hour movie and the movies are first run flicks. Movies are $7 each. Popcorn, candy and soda are each $6. The establishment is strictly cash. Credit is determined by how trustworthy you look to the cashier as you are told to enjoy the movie but come back the next day to bring your money. Your ticket stub is red or green and has "ticket" printed on it. Bring a light jacket or sweater. Remember, movie theaters don't have heating systems. That's what the people are there...
Read moreAmazing! Like walking into a time machine. Coming to this place has become a holiday tradition for our family. We don’t live in West Jefferson but we come to the area every year for the holidays. Since the new run of Star Wars movies started three years ago we won’t see it anywhere else. From walking in the door and being greeted by a friendly face and not forking over a small fortune for 5 people to see a film , to the snack bar simplicity and extremely Fair prices, the parkland theater is a small town treasure.
There are only two showings at a time so there aren’t many crowds or mazes to get lost in. The theater has new seats that are comfortable and slopes so there’s no one blocking your view. Once the lights dim and the movie starts there is no difference between this or any...
Read more"It's something" is the perfect statement for this theater. It's a small town 2 screen, so I didn't go in expecting much. Seating was simply bad; the lack to slanted theater seating ensured somebody's head was in the way and you always had to look at an awkward angle. The sound quality was also poor and several times it was hard to understand the film. That being said, it IS a small town theater and is passable to liven a boring night. But if you are going for an actual enjoyable viewing experience, just drive to Boone or Wilkesboro. You'll be much less cramped and enjoy the show, and there might actually be something open to eat at afterwards...
