The store and product options are great. But this review is specifically about the service I've experienced at the self check out. I shared my experience with the store manager in person as well.
In a nutshell: Apparently, there are many folks coming to this store with fake IDs (??). So, they are now asking for your ID, taking it out of your direct line of sight, and then asking you for your birth date if you are purchasing alcohol. In my experience at the store today, I was treated like someone who was trying to use a fake ID. I understand they have to check, but 1) I was not greeted initially, 2) the associate interrupted my scanning of other items and wanted my ID before I was ready (wine was all at the bottom of my cart), and 3) my ID was taken, concealed from my view, and my date of birth was asked as if I was going to be caught in a lie. There were zero other customers in the self check out area, so I don't understand why I was rushed to scan my wine first. I mentioned that it would be nice if I could finish scanning my other items first and I was ignored (while the associate stood between me and the self check out station).
I am really unhappy with this experience. It is not professional or appropriate to treat a customer this way. If this is the new policy, it should be posted/stated clearly. The associates should also be more professional in the process of asking for IDs and date of birth. This has happened 3 times now, so I finally asked to speak with a manager, who told me about the fake ID issues. The manager took the time to explain the situation to me and why they do it this way, and I did feel heard, but I still really hope this improves. And this isn't just about how old someone looks; regardless of age folks need to be treated professionally. I have not had this experience when buying wine at any other...
Read moreThe review below was from the past. I'm down grading it again to 1. This is another case where they baited and switched the price. This time it amounted to a $30 difference. On a very busy day, my wife was told to take a picture of the shelf posted price. She did while I stood at the check out with people wondering why I just stood there holding up the line. When she brought the picture of the posted price they adjusted it. I've been patient when this happened once or twice. It's now happened more than a dozen times. It was explained to us that prices change so fast that the people on the floor can't get them changed quick enough. That's their problem. It shouldn't be my problem. I'm not shopping at Meijer again.
We go here all the time. I have given this a higher review in the past but I'm editing that today from five star down to three. Today was the third time that we have seen a special price on the shelf that didn't ring up the way it was posted. Two of those times were buy one get one free, but they didn't ring up that way at the cash register. This third time I took a picture of the buy one -- get one free posting in front of the product on the shelf. The person came and gave us the amount of money as coupons to make up for the difference. I'm saying look out when you shop here because what they post on the shelves doesn't always come out the way at the register. Even if they give us the discount, it takes time. People are waiting in line behind us and that's not a fun experience. If this continues to happen we have other...
Read moreThe best thing about this Meijer is the mPerks. It is rewarding to shop there because you get Mperks which you can use to take 50 cents or even a dollar off a gallon of gas and nobody else in the area does that. What I dislike most about this store is they have a hard time keeping sanitizing wipes in the front of the store to wipe down your cart I like the other grocery stores who always have the sanitizing wipes. I've also learned that if I'm going to get something I get two of it because I can't count on them to have things in stock. You think that in this day and age they would have their inventory system down cold to not be out of things when you go shop there they have even been out of milk on occasion. Even around holiday time they'll be out of Staples like green beans for people to make green bean casserole I don't get it. The customer service though is very good but I don't understand why they close the service desk at 8:00 when they're open till midnight it doesn't make any sense to me that if somebody is in that store managing they could get behind the service desk and make a return or...
