The following is part of a letter I sent the hospital directer and my doctor. The only response was a call saying they would forward it to the departments.
To Whom It May Concern:
Upon arrival at 7:15 am we were uncertain where to sign in, walked past an empty desk, and had a woman literally shout at us that we have to sit down, not walk around. I commented there were not two available chairs, and she said go stand there anyway.
In the preparation room the nurse was nice, but things were still all messed up. The nurse said she had to do blood work before surgery. I told her that we had it done already. She said she could not see it, the anesthesiologist was called over, and found it on the next page. She also said at that time , that the dr. had an order for a pain pump in his paperwork, which by the way we never got.
Upon getting to his room, he was in severe pain in both arms. He continued in severe pain and was very uncomfortable and miserable for 24 hours, at which time we discovered that when the nurse came in every 6 hours and said here is your pain med, it was ibuprofen only. We were outraged to find this out, and when the nurse gave him the Lortab, he immediately felt better. Although, as soon as the pain was under control, it was more obvious that his left arm was not just asleep, but could not even be used.
A neurologist came the next day to examine him, which I felt was a long wait, to determine it was not a stroke, but nerve damage to the arm. I went to the nurses station to say my husband's IV was leaking everywhere. It took one hour for someone to come and fix it. It took two different people to try, before someone could fix it. It ended up having to be put, supposedly, on his bad arm, exactly at the bend. I explained this was a problem, she was very very rude
One person came in to draw blood, and couldn’t get it. She finally got a drop. She left, and later another nurse came in and discovered the first nurse or lab person had left a tourniquet on my husbands arm up above his robe line, where we could not see it.
We were not told until the next day that we had to call in his meals.
His drain pump was leaking badly, getting everything wet and bloody and again it was 45 minutes before anyone came.
This is not even all of the frustrations we experienced. I will tell you this, we will not be back, and will advise those people we know to go elsewhere, even if it means having to get another doctor.
You need to tell people what they need to know, when they need to know it. Your staff should offer snacks between meals to those in their care. They do at other hospitals. Rooms need garbage dumped more than every other day. If people are new and do not know how to draw blood in difficult circumstances they should either be better trained or accompanied. The way you deal with pain med. Is ridiculous. A person should not have to be coherent enough or understand your system enough to specifically ask for their own medication.
I do want to compliment a nurse we had named Donna. She was the one who discovered and mentioned to us that for 24 hours following surgery he had been given no pain medication except a form of Ibuprofen in his IV. After all the suffering, she gave him LorTab, and his misery was gone. She was also very pleasant, and knew her job. We appreciate all she did for us. After that, I called the Desk every time the pills were wearing off to get more. The procedure needs looked into. We were told then that you don’t get it unless you specifically ask. Well, telling them right after surgery that his arms were killing him, should have been considered asking I guess. We are very disturbed by this whole thing.Do you know anyone that would intentionally go 24 hours with no pain medication after...
Read moreI wish there was a negative star option I would've given a negative -5 stars. My grandbaby had to be taken in because his tummy was hurting him and his pediatrician was not available and they acted like nothing was wrong whatsoever and just labeled it colic. To Me maybe they could if done a test or something made us feel like this was his normal behavior which was not it was extremely unlike him to be screaming in pain. It has now gotten worse. I had to go to the ER a day later because my foot be sne very swollen and painful I can even walk on it. They gave me Tylenol and did an x-ray which I don't really see how an x-ray can show how bad an infection is. I would of expected maybe some blood tests or something. I was prescribed a general antibiotic and was told to expect the pain would get worse and to come back if the line he drew spread. Then he says it will spread but after 2 days if it spreads come back, I'm like if it's gonna get worse and I'm already in this much pain can u maybe give me something a little bit stronger than Tylenol..but I guess he labeled me as a pill shopper before any other diagnosis I had actually came for. I think it's very unfortunate that Drs act this way..it sucks when you really have pain that they don't listen to you and assume your addicted to pills.i felt so frustrated and helpless. Me and grandbaby both are probably going to have to go to another emergency room just to get a normal non judgmental opinion where the Dr or PA doesn't question us and in stead listens to why we are there. They didn't even put an arm band on me. Never been treated so disrespectfully and was just uncalled for. Emergency visits are expensive and it's hard to go get another opinion especially when ur in pain and then u get scared that they will judge u as well again. What has the world cone to these days? Give people the benefit of the doubt or just do ur job and investigate there complaints first it would if at least made me and my daughter in law feel our trips to the ER wasn't a complete negative waste if out time since we are having to self diagnosis the symptoms to try to get some relief for the screaming in pain baby. I am pretty sure it's not difficult to tell when a baby is hurting that bad. Never go here again and if u have a baby with tummy issues you may leave feeling s little frustrated..save urself a trip and go to a better emergency room or u might be writing a review yourself trying to help others which they didn't seem to care about. I heard things before about this hospital but I overlooked it thinking it couldn't be that bad and it was an emergency in both situations just the same outcome. Listen to the patient or baby cries. I also heard another lady become angry about I don't know but she and her son left abruptly and didn't seem very satisfied with their visit., And they were not busy in my opinion we went straight to a room..not sure why the patients were all still feeling maybe worse than they did when...
Read moreI had sudden pain in my left side and after several hours drove myself to the ER. It was mid morning on a Tuesday. It was all I could do to drive there and then walk across the street and up the ramp to the ER door. I walked in doubled over in pain. No one was in the waiting area and to my right I saw a window with a dark haired woman talking to what looked like a male maintenance worker. I waited at the window for several minutes with no acknowledgement from the woman who had her back to the window. I finally asked if I was in the right place... the ER? I could barely stand and was getting nauseated. (If I had been having a heart attack, I guess the woman at the admitting window may have noticed me as I hit the floor. I am still in shock someone so disinterested works in that department when minutes count.) Through the window she asked me for insurance documents. I could barely speak or stand and told her I had been there recently for a procedure and nothing had changed and would she please look up my info? I told her I had to sit down or I would fall down. I told her the on-call doc I had spoken to earlier suspected a bowel obstruction. She opened up the door and had me sit on a chair beside her. She was very rude as she continued to ask me more questions (not related to how I felt) that I could not answer due to being in so much pain. After what seemed like forever, she had me walk down a long hallway. I could barely stand and walking was almost impossible. I kept wondering why she didn't get me a wheelchair? Once I was away from her, my experience went from horrible to great (if you consider being in the ER great). The medical staff was a bit disinterested and chatting among themselves when they were in my room. The nurse gave me a cup and pointed to a restroom across the hall expecting I could walk over there and get a sample and walk back on my own. As much pain as I was in, nauseated and dizzy, I thought that was not a safe thing to have me do alone but she did not offer to help me and walked away so I was on my own. The doc was wonderful. He spoke with me about my symptoms as he got my pain under control. After I had settled down and breathing normally, I was taken to have a CT scan. The tech that took me to the CT was very nice and the CT tech was nice. He took me back to my room to rest and after about 45 minutes the doc came in and told me I had kidney stones. Better than what we initially thought but so painful. The doc was very nice and calming. He explained everything and said after resting another hour or so I could go home since he thought the stones would continue to pass on their own,...
