If I could give zero star review I definitely would do that. All the comment below with one/two stars are accurate. I agreed with them totally.
Staffs are very condescending (From front desk to managers). Not even asking for a decent customer service, they are just disrespectful the way they speak to you.
Waited for 45 minutes at the front desk to get my membership reactivated while staffs were chatting around. Several of us were waiting to enroll but the staffs seem not care at all.
Staff initiated the conversation of the gym packages even though she was aware that I enrolled my fitness program via my health insurance. Then she asked me if I am interested to do at least one session of the health assessment with the trainer. Please note - she was very condescending from the moment we started the conversation, honestly, if she doesn't want to initiate the health assessment or sell any personal trainer programs, she didn't even have to initiate the topic).
Then she talked about goals and why I wanted to come to the gym. I said I used to be a member and stopped my membership due to the COVID in the past two years. I am just trying to renew my membership and get back to the normal days. Then she kept asking "But why?" And I said, "That's the reason why." She did not believe it and said "You definitely have a goal to come in and the assessment is something to help you find your goal." I told her I literally just want to come in and work out, to get back my daily routine, that's my goal and I am fine not to do the assessment.
Then she started telling me that this assessment is mandatory with my insurance. I was confused so l asked her if she had any document about this assessment program so that I can call my insurance about it. And if this is mandatory I would do it on a different day instead. I just dont want to do it today because I spent so much time to renew my membership already. Then she started being rude and said "Well I dont understand why you can't do it today." And I said because I've been sitting here for an hour already. I really just want to renew my membership and think about this later. Then she said "Well, I dont understand why you can't do it today and dont give me this attitude for turning down the assessment". I said "Excuse me. I am trying to ask for more information about this mandatory assessment which you cannot give me the information so I declined to do it today and you are saying I am giving you an attitude. I have said my reason for coming in to the gym but you didn't like it and you put the blame on me that I am giving you an attitude?" This is shocking.
At the end, I said to her that I didn't want to keep the conversation with her so I would like to call my insurance about this mandatory assessment and I would do it tomorrow when I am there since it is mandatory. Then she said "Your health insurance does not have this information so you dont need to do it if you dont want to". Then I said "I am sorry I am very confused now, so is this mandatory or not??" Then she refused to answer me and said my membership is activated and asked me to leave.
Mount Prospect LA Fitness, I tried to give your staffs a benefit of a doubt that they may have a bad day so they talked to customers like this. But seeing all these comments below from other people with the same experiences (some comments were couple months or years ago) I do believe this is the repeated behaviors; and they would only talk nicely to the people who are willing to join the additional programs and treat the people who decline the programs unfairly.
For the people who live around Mount Prospect neighborhood and are looking to join the gym membership in this location, watch out and be ready to receive this type of manner as a welcome to you.
Be kind. It is not hard...

Hi Holly-
I'm really disgusted with how this was handled. On Friday 4/10 and per the below, I swam and discovered a large amount of feces in the pool. As an added fact to the story below, another member at that time, did say with certainty, that he witnessed a swimmer having an accident in the pool. This gentlemen was seen getting out of the pool and tracking feces to the men's room. Minutes later, I had a conversation with the cleaning attendant. He also made many gesture to assure me that he knew it was feces. Remember, soiled footprint led from the pool to the men's room. This was the reason for the cleaning guy and I to meet as we both conversed while he was mopping. And again, when the cleaning guy and I met with the front desk reception person, the conversation clearly was "there's poo in the pool." Flash to Sunday, around noon time. I met with the manager on duty and his investigation led him to believe that it was leafs. And upon adding the cleaning guy to the conversation, the cleaning guy conveniently became convinced that the debris were leafs. Funny how his memory had changed. How does a person track "leaf" marks while getting out of a pool. Even with dirty slippers, how would they lead "muddy" tracks from water to shower room but no tracks from the locker room to the pool? These slippers became muddy from a pool then? Do leafs normally smear at the bottom of a pool? Do leafs normally look like "rolled" dates? If the cleaning man did think they were leafs, then why did he bring it to the attention of the front desk? Your staff chose to take the easy route and convinced themselves that it was leafs. I'm not very smart, but I know the difference between feces and anything else. And I know what the Mt. Prospect LA Fitness location did- they left bits of feces in the water and pretended that is was leafs. And then over the weekend, they knowingly let dozens of people swim in the pool. All they had to do was to remove the debris and shock the pool. Instead, the staff chose to let dozens of people swim in a toilet bowl. On this Friday afternoon, me and several members noticed that there was poo in the water. No one on the LA Fitness team did anything about it. Now, I realized that nothing will be done. Makes me really think about this gym.
By the way and to be fair, on Sunday at the alleged location, there were still visible bits at the bottom of the pool and some of it were...
Read moreTLDR: there's a lot of potential to make this gym more attractive as it once were such as providing equipment, facility updates, and group classes since the physical space for improvement.
I recently grab a membership in this gym and I can't help but to compare the condition once it was newly built over a decade ago while I was in high school. For example, the most recent is that I think this place should have basketballs available for the members. I was shooting hoops. I brought my own ball. There's another person shooting hoops with me on the other side of the Court and at least dozen instances where people came in looked around for a ball and left the court. Had there been the basketball available people would have been able to play and enjoy their time in this gym.
Although this gym is over a decade old, there has to be renovations or improvements done in the locker rooms. There is a stench that old locker rooms have that this one has also. I can see the grout tiles darker color than what it was originally. The insides of the lockers are beginning to have cracks and discoloration from use. And there are refilled soaps in the dispensers, but no actual space for them to place these jugs of soap for refills only on the counter where people wash their hands.
I've been coming to this gym for one week on various days, times, early morning, afternoon, and in the evening, but I have not seen any classes that occupies their top second floor being held. It's such a shame to have the dance studio and cycling room without any class is being held.
LA Fitness is not a luxury gym as I once thought it was. Specifically, in Mt. Prospect feels like a park district community gym. I want to try this out to get away from the aged park district community centers but this one is no different. If there are not much improvement to LA Fitness, or another gym similar, I foresee in the next two decades. This gym specifically to turn out similarly to what had happened to the local YMCA. Therefore, this location deserves...
