Travelling for work & visited back to back evenings for dinner. 1st night. Ribeye MR & Grilled Shrimp. In the time it took me to wash my hands my salad arrived. B4 I even got the dressing on the salad the entree arrives. Fastest steak dinner I've ever been served. Undercooked but I can still enjoy rare if it's a good cut and it was so I refrained from complaining and still enjoyed my meal which was otherwise perfect.
Figured I would give them another shot the next night because I already knew my way there and back to the hotel and I felt that if they could get the cook of the steak right, I would be in for one heck of an awesome meal.
2nd night. NY Strip MR & shrimp. Meal arrives and I have this perfectly square, inch + thick chunk of extremely undercooked, grizzled something on my plate. Side Note. I cooked to get through college and have used both single and double broilers to prepare and serve literally 1,000's of steaks. I hand cut most of those steaks myself. Still, I have no clue what part of the animal this chunk of beef might have come from. Wish I had taken a pic but I did point it out to the server (bartender) and even showed her a pick from their own menu of what a NY Strip is supposed to look like. She was clueless and I wouldn't be surprised if she's a vegetarian; as she had no idea what a NY Strip is supposed to even look like. She did ask if I wanted to speak to a manager but I didn't want to be that guy. I hadn't even cut into it at that point, and I was hungry. I thought maybe it's just an odd cut in appearance and it may still be edible. Again, I can still enjoy rare if it is a decent cut. I begin the process of dissecting this thing looking for the edible portion but it was difficult to find much of anything but grizzle. On a positive note the 3-4 bites I did manage to carve from the chunk were clearly from a good grade of beef. Butchered & prepared correctly I would have had an awesome steak. At some point a manager rounding did ask me how my meal was. Mind you by this point I've slaughtered this thing looking for that all elusive edible portion and I have had 3-4 edible bites. I let her know that it was the worst NY Strip I had ever been served and explained why. (wish I had taken that photo B4 cutting it all up). I believe she did ask me what I wanted her to do about it but when I looked down at the shredded grizzle and refected upon the delicious salad, bread, potato and shrimp that I had just enjoyed all I could think to do/say was crack a joke to relieve the tension. I made some silly reference to how Judge Judy always uses the analogy, "if you eat the steak you can't then expect to be comped for it". That concluded the discussion and she wandered off.
There is so much potential here with proper training in butchering, preparation, quality control and customer service. The only reason I am awarding 3 stars is the staff I encountered were all very nice and I think it's a shame the kitchen set them up like that by putting the chunk of whatever in the pass to be served. Ultimately, it is up to ownership to ensure all staff are properly trained. I will likely never return to this location but am not giving up on the Texas Roadhouse franchise. I've had some great meals at many locations and overall TR is a...
Read moreLast night we took the family to Texas Roadhouse Mt Prospect. What a horrendous experience! To start we went on the app for “Join Waitlist” which was supposed to be about 15 minutes ahead. Upon arrival the hostess could not find our information despite having a confirmation on our phone. She said it would be another 15 minutes or so to be seated. About 20 minutes later we asked about the table & were told another 15 minutes. We patiently waited and asked about the table again. This time we were seated. Finally. When we ordered, both my wife & I ordered Prime Rib medium rare. After a solid 20-25 minute wait the food arrived & instead, we both were served a grey well-done steak….by mistake. We had no idea what cut they even served us. We showed it to the waiter who was still delivering food to the rest of the table. He too was shocked that we did not get the Prime Rib we ordered. He said he would get the Manager ASAP. A young woman stopped at the table & asked if everything was ok. We explained that this was not what we ordered. She asked if she could get us something else. By now the rest of the table was well into their meals & we told her we didn’t want to get served after everyone else was finished. She said the Prime Rib was already cooked so there would be no wait time. She took our plates & left. Sometime later our waiter returned with the manager Mauricio. The manager explained that they were out of Prime Rib & started putting the same dried out brown overcooked dishes back on the table again! We told him that they should have told us they were out of Prime Rib, not just substitute an entirely different menu item without first discussing it with us. He said there was nothing he could do. He did not offer a discount or a comp on either meal. He did not offer to buy us a drink or a dessert or an appetizer or even a stinking cup of coffee. He just took the plates & left. What an arrogant, disrespectful, unprofessional representative of Texas Roadhouse he was!! A small apology & inexpensive token of kindness would have ended the evening differently. However, he clearly would rather throw away 2 steak dinners rather than apologize or act like a manager! Shame on Management for allowing such an individual to be the face of their establishment. We have been to this location since it opened numerous times. We even bought Gift Certificates for our staff for Xmas. However, NEVER have we had such a horrible experience directly from the restaurant manager. Our waiter admitted later that he actually screwed up & ordered the wrong meals for us. At this point we don’t even know if they really were out of Prime Rib or if it was just Mauricio trying to get us to accept the 2 meals. Needless to say, we never had any dinner, so we paid for the other guests & left. This was just a terrible experience start to finish. Our days of going to Texas Roadhouse are done. There are too many restaurants out there welcoming our money & patronage instead of a company who clearly cares nothing about Customer Service &...
Read moreEvery year on my bday my Dad takes me out to dinner. This year the place I chose had an issue with their water heater & couldnt serve people that evening. My Dad recommended Texas Roadhouse as an alternative and I had never been there so I decided to give it a shot. I cannot say enough good things about this place. First of all, their table bread comes with the most delicious cinnamon honey butter. It would be SUPER easy to fill up on the free bread cause its really hard to stop eating it. Somehow we managed to limit ourselves to 2 baskets. We ordered the standard appetizer of a fried onion bloom (I dont remember exactly what they called it but lets be real its just an awesome blossom), which tasted exactly like you'd expect it to. I ordered the 10oz Ribeye which was absolutely delicious. I asked for it to be prepared medium-well but when it came it looked like they pulled it off the grill the very second it hit medium. I was worried that it may be to red for my liking but I didnt want to send it back and have them just put it back on the grill after I had already cut into it cause it ruins the quality. I definitely made the right choice. The steak was absolutely mouth-watering. It was juicy & tender with a fantastic flavor and I devoured the whole thing. My dinner came with 2 sides & I chose a baked potato with butter, sour cream, & cheese, and a caesar salad. The salad had wayyyyyy to much dressing on it. I usually like a lot of dressing but this was to much even for me. Next time I think I'll ask for it on the side. There was so much dressing the croutons actually got a little soft but the salad was very fresh and I did eat most of it. The potato was good but there wasnt enough butter on it which made it kind of dry but thats my fault for not asking for more butter. My dad ordered the 20oz bone-in Ribeye which was HUGE and he enjoyed it just as much as I did mine. My son ordered a half slab of ribs and through the whole meal he excitedly demonstrated how easily the tender meat just slid off the bones. No joke, he could just pick it up and turn it a bit and the meat just slid right off leaving behind nothing but a completely clean bone. They were so good he just could not stop talking about it. When we arrived we were greeted right away and led to a table with no wait. Our server was super friendly and very good at her job. She never forgot anything, she was very attentive but never hovering and genuinely polite. Even though they were really busy with a full parking lot we never felt crowded, rushed, or ignored. At one point the manager even stopped by the table to ask how things were going and if we were enjoying ourselves.
None of them had any idea that we were celebrating my birthday. This was just their normal measure of service. Needless to say, I was very impressed and I had a very delicious bday dinner and a...
