Most of the professors here are friendly and are flexible with their students. I've only had a negative experience with one professor and that wasn't anything serious. The pricing also doesnt seem to be as ridiculous as most colleges but it quickly adds up. Nearly 1/3rd of my bill was random fees: Administrative fee, capital fee, booksaver fee, facilities fee, information tech fee, and student activity fee. They do not explain what these are and quite frankly I do not use the facilities, information tech, or have done a single student activity in my entire time at this college. But beyond this, my real issue and reason for a negative review is that the college itself sets deadlines for payments and will send you multiple notices through the phone and email, but when you attempt to resolve the issue with the college you are put on hold for extensive periods of time, and then if that wasn't annoying enough after waiting you are suddenly disconnected from the call. It took me multiple attempts before I was able to contact someone from a completely different office in the college, just for them to tell me the voicemail box is full and that is the reason for the random disconnect. They then told me that the financial aid office isn't there to accept calls the week before college, yet they expect us to be able to resolve our payments before college starts. This has happened every semester for the 3 semesters I have spent at WVNCC and it is very frustrating. My review had to be downgraded from a 3-star to a 1-star because I'm being borderline harassed by this college to call a number that doesn't work, yet no one seems to listen nor care as long as they get paid. They consistently email me telling me to call them and everytime I call them I get no answer. I have 9 fruitless calls where I waited for absurd amounts of time on hold just to for the voicemail to be full and their auto-directory to not work. Now they are threatening to kick me out over financial aid forms that I have already submitted and will not answer the call to resolve this. Instead they just demand I call them or pay them upfront with my own cash. This feels almost intentional at this point. Between the inconsistency, the inability to be reached, and their ridiculous fees I could not knowingly recommend this college and if I had the option I would've gone anywhere else. The music class I needed was only offered by them this semester so I had no choice if I wanted...
Read morei signed up for the phlebotomy class- got told from the financial aid office that FASFA would cover that entire class for me. then find out from another person that FASFA doesn’t cover workforce classes so they tell me i can apply to the HEAPS grant- so i did. when i show up on my first day of class, i get told “you aren’t eligible for that grant” no other guidance on any other options i may be able to take. the next day i call asking for some guidance, i get told WVNCC offers a scholarship (continuing education scholarship) that i would be eligible for with the phlebotomy class. i complete all steps of turning it in and i got told it was a quick turnaround so i call the next day, no answer, and 3 times the day after. finally i talk to someone and yet again it’s someone telling me that the scholarship is not eligible to cover the phlebotomy classes. not to mention, every time i have called i am met with attitude and hold times that are over an hour just to ask 1 question. the fact that every single person that works there will give you a different answer is insane and so unprofessional/unorganized. WVNCC, please get your college together- especially the financial...
Read moreI am a former nursing student. The nursing program hasn’t evolved since the dark ages in the matter of how faculty treat their students. Nursing has evolved to become a culture of safety and nurses are now part of an interdisciplinary team. Why can’t students be treated more respectfully? Why is the simulation equipment so old? Why is bed changes the focus of the first semester? Why are reputable faculty who are knowledgeable in current trends of nursing practice not retained and instead replaced with ppl who have never taught before? Must truly be a poor work environment as well as emotionally damaging to the...
