I am a true believer in "you get what you pay for" that is why try to play courses that the 'beginners' tend to stay away from. I love the game of golf and my customers and I always have the best time at a private course because of the feeling of professionalism. I have been to the course a few times and have never had a good experience with the staff. Even once I was given cart without brakes; when I told the staff, he laughed, argued, and did there was nothing he could do. I figured it is mainly because I am not a memeber and went on about my day. Until the day that I feel I got pushed over.
I paid a premium on my cart and green fee because it was in the premium hours time slot, and I am not a member. I think this is acceptable because of the fact that I am not a member, and these extra fees go to keeping the facilities up to member status. I was unable to finish a round due to the pace of play on the 21st of April. Lots of players were not playing golf the way it is supposed to be played, as I witnessed. We were so delighted to accept a rain check to come back on the 29th of April to play out our nine holes. We booked online where it said the green fees were $39.00. I even paid a portion online to reserve my time. I called ahead to make sure this was the proper way to use my rain check. We arrived at the clubhouse to finish paying and accept our cart where we were charged more than the amount that the online booking software mentioned. (Again not a huge deal; I think it was an extra $4.) I then go to hand the counter associate my signed rain check from the week prior. The gentleman then gave me a total. (I thought he may have made a mistake) as I stated the original green and cart fees were $39.00. We had to end up paying $32.50 because "that's all the discount" he could give.
It was a rain check for a premium time slot. I already paid for my round.
Again, I understand that there is a premium to play at this course because it used to be a private course and it is meant for those serious about the game. Which we are, and I do not appreciate getting scammed and charged twice for the round that I had already paid a premium for.
Two others, as well as myself, were looking into becoming full-time members at this course and were trying it out before we made our decision on which privately owned course we would like to choose. Obviously, this pushed us away from your club as we would refuse to get scammed. We did pay the $32.50 as a farewell to the course and will be taking our...

If you ever want to pay for premium golf just to experience the emotional rollercoaster of “is this a golf course or a construction zone?”, Willowbend is your place.
I’ve played many courses in Wichita, and this is easily the worst value I’ve seen yet, and somehow one of the more expensive.
Cart paths: Pick your adventure…crumbling concrete, random gravel patches, or just… nothing.
Greens: Slow, rough, and full of unrepaired divots. Major turf repairs looked like someone patched them with a garden shovel and a prayer. It felt like putting on shag carpet after a hail storm.
Fairways & Rough: Fairways technically cut, but cratered with divots like they hosted artillery practice out there. Miss the fairway by two feet? Good luck. Rough was so overgrown I think I lost a ball to a small ecosystem. Bring a machete in your bag.
Bunkers: Range from rock hard concrete dust to pebble pits that will chew up your wedges.
Safety hazards: Exposed ground wire on a hole…oh no…I hope I don’t fall..
Customer experience: Asked about course conditions and got a “we’re doing projects” response said in the same tone a teenager uses when lying about cleaning their room. Hard denial energy. Then the cherry on top: player with us bought a Dr Pepper that was flat and expired since July 2025. It’s October. Called to let them know, was told “Call a guy tomorrow.” Outstanding.
Final thoughts: Clubhouse looks fine when you walk in, then you get to hole one and the illusion ends. This course needs serious maintenance, communication, and quality control before charging premium prices.
Right now it’s giving: “Private club pricing, muni level care, and abandoned lot landscaping.”
Save your money. There are multiple Wichita courses that cost less and...
Read moreI really wanted to put 3.5 but its for sure not a 4. Fairways & tee boxes were rough. Bunkers needed some help. Greens will be decent in time. They sanded them it seems within 2-3 weeks which in turn made them very slow and unpredictable. They do have some weed problems ahead it looks with as much as we seen on the course. Overall it was clean except a few areas of water that needed help. The club house staff made it a better experience at the turnaround. Hard to say I'll be back with our group soon unless I hear it gets in better shape. Crazy to think this was more costly than Sand Creek last week. Last years drought must of hit them hard I guess. Cart was a bit tore up but the other cart paired with us was alright. Hoping this course gets some help from mother nature and hard work. The layout was pretty...
