Elks 797 Golf Club — Local services in Wilmington

This has turned into a really nice well manicured course that offers quite a challenge for the every day golfer. Though it's been quite busy the last couple of years you can still get a tee time close to the times you want to play. The staff have been very pleasant every time I have been there. I mean every time, not once have I seen a negative attitude waiting to grab my money and move me on like i'm a bratty kid. ( that helps my game). The carts are always clean and so far I have never been stranded out on the course because of a problem with the cart I rented. Be ready to challenge the water on a couple of the par 3's. I particularly like how they are laid out. Greens are well kept, people who play here must care for their course, they actually repair their divots, well, most of them do. Great place for a family golf outing or just a twosome. This course is worth playing more than once. This is a regular stop for me every season. There should be half stars in the ratings, This place deserves 3.5 stars if your going to compare it to all the courses around SW Ohio. The course is cheap. The worst part about this place is the customer service. I've been here lots of times because it is really close to me and I have never had a good experience with them. Its a shame because the course its self isn't to bad, but I am hesitant to go back because how I am treated when I walk in. They are almost mad you are there golfing because the front desk has to actually do some work. Last time I went I was livid. We had a 4some and we just wanted to play a quick 9. We arrived at 6:40 and walked up tried to buy the man said "NOPE!!!" and just pointed at the sign that said NO CARTS OUT AFTER 630 AND ALL CARTS MUST BE IN 830. It is the middle of June Right now and the sun does not set until 915. And just gave me so much attitude for no reason at all. This course also does not do rain checks and wont let you know that before you go out (that was another experience) . Management of this course needs to change and that is why the business is probably struggling. I will not be going back anytime soon because how I get treated. Better off driving to Majestic and paying a little more for a nicer course and better...

Played the Elks on 07/28/24. Third time here in 2024; always seems to be an issue at check-in; software is always down, and no one seems to know how much to charge. On this day, they didn't have adequate change. For a public course off of the beaten path, it isn't a bad place to play. Lots of trees; narrow fairways; however there generally is room on either side of the fairway to hit your approach after a wayward drive.Greens are bumpy; too many areas of fungus and dead grass. Challenging, fun layout. Carts have simple GPS units, however many of the units dont work. Carts were also very dirty. Could be a much better course with a little work. For the cost, I'd recommend the Elks, but its a somewhat neglected...
