Bear's Trading Post — Local services in Winchester

I stopped by Bear’s Trading Post because I’d heard they sometimes have coins and currency for sale. When I arrived, I saw two display cases with coins and began browsing. While I was looking, Kevin, an associate, was assisting another customer, casually chatting with him about gold and silver prices. I waited patiently, expecting that once he was finished, he would acknowledge me since I was standing at the same case he was working from.

The other customer ended up purchasing a silver necklace. I stayed at the case, continuing to browse, fully expecting that I’d be helped next. During this time, I overheard multiple staff conversations about how sales had been slow and how there was more money going out than coming in. Given that I was standing there ready to make a purchase, I assumed someone would take the opportunity to assist.

When Kevin finished with the first gentleman, I expected him to greet me or at least ask if I wanted to see anything. Instead, he went straight to help someone else who had just walked in with a sports stand for appraisal. I continued to wait, thinking surely once that was over I’d be next. When that appraisal ended with no sale, I again expected him to come over. Instead, I was ignored completely.

At no point in over 20 minutes was I greeted, acknowledged, or offered assistance—despite clearly showing interest in the coins. I could tell you Kevin’s name, details about his work as a part-time associate, and the conversations happening in the store, but not once was I spoken to directly. I was ready to spend up to $500 on coins today, but it became clear my business wasn’t a priority.

This was my first experience at Bear’s Trading Post, and unfortunately it left a lasting negative impression. If a customer can stand at the counter for over 20 minutes without so much as a hello, it says a lot about where customer service falls on the...

Went in looking for a gold chain. The guy had to take each chain and weigh it in an area where I could only take his word on the actual weight. Except he never came back with weights just a price that he figured in some how. When I asked him for the mass(grams) of it, he said "I think about 10 grams or milgrams..." okay.. So I proceeded to ask what is the spot price of this type of gold, which the reply was very irresponsible... "well they don't have spot prices for karat, just on 24 karat(pure 99.9%). And the spot on gold is $1600 right now.... wrong to both.. Google should have been the first thing you did to find out if they do spot prices per karat, which it turns out they do, secondly $1300 is the actually price right now, give or take 60 bucks.. So the 10 gram milligrams of a chain that he said was roughly $600, with an adjusted price to actual cost of gold took off 80 bucks.... really shady. but 500 bucks for "i think" 10 grams of 14k.. really? Might as well have bought a half ounce of gold for 700... you guys aren't Kay's or Shaw. One it's second hand jewelry, secondly, at that point it's a precious metal with a fluctuating price.

I wouldn't recommend them to any one. Tool...

I’ve been doing business with Bears Trading Post for a few years now. Between being a struggling musician and the overall economy, I’ve had to pawn or sell some guitars and amps. They have always given me the best prices on either getting a pawn loan, selling , or buying stuff. Also they have some nice music equipment for sale, and have always given me a good deal on various items I’ve purchased from them. They have some stuff on my wish list I hope to get in the future too. It’s unfortunate that some people post a negative review about doing business with Bears Trading or any pawn shop for that matter. I guess some customers don’t understand market value on things, or the fact that some items are undesirable and aren’t worth anything. They are a business helping the community and have to make a profit to keep the doors open. So with that in mind, I have to say they have always been fair with me when I do business with them. I’ll continue to use Bears Trading Post and I’ve recently recommended them to my friends as well. My friend was happy with doing business with them...
