I had occasion to need the services of a medical professional on, of all days, Thanksgiving Day 2019. I first thought of MedWELL, checked their website where it says "open seven days a week" with no mention of being closed for the holiday. On my way there I figure I should call and at that point get the "we're currently closed message".
I next call Conemaugh Emergency Room and they confirm that MedWELL is closed. I ask if the "6 minute wait time" listed on their website is accurate and am told that I would probably be seen by someone in that timeframe but it would probably just be the initial triage person. I was told that all ER beds were full and that there were 4 people in the waiting room.
I then thought of Windber Hospital Emergency Room, being last on my list for no reason other than it is the farthest medical facility from my home.
Upon my arrival at Windber Hospital ER, I was immediately approached by an RN who took me right back and started their triage routine. He was extremely professional while also being friendly. While he was asking questions and gathering information another RN was taking my vital signs. By the time that was all done, I immediately spoke with an intake person who quickly & efficiently obtained the rest of the necessary data.
After triage, I was immediately shown to an ER room and within minutes, maybe 2 minutes tops, a doctor came in to evaluate me.
Based on the triage information and the doctor's examination, a few tests were ordered and carried out almost instantaneously.
After a relatively short wait the doctor let me know that everything pointed to being just a pulled muscle, all tests showed clear of anything more serious.
I just wanted to leave this review as my small way of saying thank you to a wonderful team!! Everyone was professional, courteous, and friendly. I have peace of mind now and can enjoy my holiday with family, I hope that their shifts end soon so that they can...

I went to the E.R. with severe ear pain, and while waiting to be seen by this QUACK, I heard him prescribe Levaquin to 3 patients. He looked in my ear and said, "looks good, looks good." I asked him if he would care to take another look! He mumbled something about his glasses. Then, sure enough, he tried to prescribe Levaquin to me too. Seems to be his "go to drug" no matter what someone has. This drug is VERY strong and dangerous and should only be prescribed in life-threatening situations. When I refused the Levaquin he said, "I don't know what to give you." REALLY? YOUR SUPPOSED TO BE A DOCTOR. He ended up giving me a different antibiotic, which caused a serious side effect and never helped my original condition. I had to go to my family doctor and my family doctor said I was the SECOND person that week to complain about this E.R. Doctor and my family doctor advised me to never go to that hospital again. Also, my doctor said the drug prescribed was another very strong drug and never should have been given to me --- I didn't need to be on antibiotics for my condition - all I needed was EAR DROPS. I filed a complaint with the Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber (aka Windber Medical Center) and I told them I don't feel I should be responsible to pay the $150.00 bill that I got. After a month or more, James Steward, MD, Medical Director of the Emergency Room, sent me a letter saying, "At this time, the hospital is not at liberty to forego any charges that you are responsible for." REALLY? If you take your car to a mechanic to fix a dent it has and you get it back with an even worse dent are you responsible to pay the bill? NO. This is the WORST HOSPITAL ever since it was taken over and KWAMI AGBODZA is the WORST E.R. Quack this hospital has ever had. STAY AWAY...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFew months ago, but I had pneumonia. Could not breathe whatsoever at 1am, went to the er. Got chewed out by multiple staff members for not taking a covid test before I went (at 1 am, all shops were closed and when youre struggling to breathe it's not your first thought, funnily enough) drew blood, took 3 people to get the IV in right over a course of 10 minutes as I was actively in one of the machines. Did NOT give me a room for FIVE hours until they heard me talking to my mom on the phone. Instead I was made to sit in the room with the blood pressure machine and computer beside check in. Again, 5 hours. Only after they figured out I had pneumonia they stopped bitching at me, which didn't do much because I was given breathing treatments that kept coming undone from the metal canister and no one would listen to me when I said the tube came off multiple times. I'd have concerns, it'd be brushed off. Horrid experience. For the love of God PLEASE go somewhere else. Nurse was unprofessional, heard them talking about other patients as well, not in a treatment way. She was an old lady, I don't remember her name. Another nurse claimed she got me a room all by herself!! after they heard me on the phone with my mom and tell her I didn't get a room and was made to sit in that little blood pressure room the entire five hours. I had a room for about 20 minutes, during which my doctor said to finish an iv bag they gave me. The nurse sent me off without it...
