Outdoorsman Sport Shop — Local services in Winthrop Harbor

I"ve made many purchases here over the years and always get great service. This past weekend I stopped in to sign up for conceal carry class, and shopped for a new weapon. Nothing in stock I liked so I went to Gander Mtn to look around. Big mistake. Hard to get service due to tons of people window drooling at the gun counter. I found a Springfield xd mod 2 on sale for a great price so I bought it, and had it shipped to Outdoorsman to be processed. (standard for Illinois resident buying in Wi.)

The kid at Gander was nice, but he incorrectly told me the gun did not come in any other finishes. The guys at Outdoorsman pointed out that they charged me sales tax in Wi, and after calling I have to drive back up to Gander to get that refunded. Then the guys at Outdoorsman told me about a Springfield promotion that all I have to do is get online and enter my purchase info and I get a couple free magazines, a range bag, and some other goodies. Nobody at Gander even bothered to tell me about this.

Long story short, price isn't the only factor. I'm sticking with Outdoorsman. At Gander I ended up with a nice gun but would've gotten another finish had I known it was available. I would never have known about $125 in free gear that came with my purchase because of Gander. I have to drive back to Gander to get refunded taxes I shouldn't have been charged. First of all let me start off by saying that The Outdoorsman has earned a customer for life. This was the first time I had ever been to the store and will definitely be back for all of my firearm needs. Caleb was the store associate who greeted us when we walked in the door. He was very knowledgeable and thorough in answering all of our questions that we had. We left the store that day to return home to double check measurements. Caleb said I could place an order over the phone. So after returning home to ensure measurements were correct, we contacted him the next day to place our order. We were told we would be contacted in a few days to set up delivery options. Delivery was quick. Waited 2 days. Upon delivery we encountered issues with the item fitting. They spent well over 2 hours attempting to ensure product would fit, but after exhausting all options, they took our order back to the store for storage with no issues and said they'd be in contact with us after the holiday. Promptly after the holiday we received a call and set up a new delivery plan, which worked out perfectly. All 3 guys were as cautious as they could be to not damage anything in my house. Very thankful for everything they did and all accommodations they made.. We are absolutely impressed with our first experience with The Outdoorsman!...

Good Place to go Shoot. It has a pretty good range that has about 10 lanes and is 25 yds long. The range itself seems a little dated, there is no automatic distance settings to range your target, You need to press and hold a button to move the target away or toward you. It can also get a little smokey however the price to shoot makes it worth it. Currently they charge $15 per hour along with $5 Guests and after 10 visits you get 1 visit free. Memberships are $300 annually. The Store/Range Clerk is very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a cheap range to relax and shoot a few targets.
