This store is pretty average for a gaming shop. I been here twice now. It is very well stocked with most vintage to newer TTRPGs. Some older titles I haven’t seen in years. The drawback to having all of this inventory is the extra space is very limited. Really not the fault of anyone; the store is lacking in a decent amount of floor space. Dice, sets & singles are the most expensive I’ve seen in Grand Rapids. Singles are a dollar each. Most all of the other shops have them priced at 3 for $1. Near the back of the store I spotted a display case with vintage games, books & some accessories. I was interested in some AD&D hardcover rule books. They were not marked with any prices. I tried to get prices from the store clerk but he said someone else does that, not him. I hoped he could possibly contact this person, but that wasn’t something he wanted to do. My second visit was over a month later, still these books were not priced. Further back are tables for MTG games. Also D&D 5th edition games are periodically available. Several MTG games were going on while I was there. I didn’t care for the fact both times I was overcharged. I didn’t mention it because I did not notice this until I was miles away. Also the overcharge wasn’t much. First time it was a dollar, second time by 50¢. Staff was very friendly & talkative. If you’re in the area I’d recommend stopping in to check it out. If you are far from this location I would not bother...
Read moreMy friend and I were trying to just find somewhere to play some Magic with some other people out near GR on a Sunday night, we went to one place but they closed at 6 so we left and made our way over to The Gaming Wharf. We walked in and were not received very well by an older gentleman with glasses, who I believe is the owner but not entirely sure because every time we asked a question about his cards he barely wanted to answer. He seemed more interested in watching his anime, we asked about anyone playing but he just was standoffish again and talked about a paint club leaving and how there's no one there to play, then he proceeded to rudely say "Well it's Sunday", yeah we get that, that's why we went out to try to see if anyone was looking to maybe play. There was also a case of a few moxs' and a black lotus, I asked about the price of the moxs' and he just said "I don't know, you'd have to look em up same as I would" whilst he was sitting at his computer. The whole experience was just not pleasant at all and I would not reccomend newcomers. If you own a store, you probably should treat your customers with a little more respect because I've met gas station workers with...
Read moreFriendly staff, good selection, and average prices make this a fun place to pick your gaming needs. From Magic the gathering packs, sets, or singles to Warhammer to hero clix to DnD; they have a wide selection. Their website allows you to look up their inventory before you even make your trip out so be sure to do this so you know they have what you want. If you order after first thing in the morning, a call to let them know you made an order will help them have it ready when you get there.
*Edit: they now have an attached pizza place, Pizza at the Wharf. When at pre-release or another wotc MTG event it would be problematic to get food and keep playing, usually resorting to a granola bar, or order in Jimmy John's. Now with the attached pizza palor, it got a whole lot easier and it doesn't hurt that the food...
