If I had the choice to do my furter education again, I never would have chosen YSU. They had a lab with 4 computers for the TCOM (radio, tv, film) students. Nearly every class culminated in a group project, which always ended up not being of professional quality. We were expected to teach ourselves the equipment and programs for the most part, because the majority of our professors did not specialize in what they were "teaching." In capstone, we were supposed to be working on our portfolios. Instead, the teacher wasted our time writing a speech over and over. When it became obvious that was all we were going to do and we were not going to get lab time to make things we could actually use for a creative portfolio, which you need to have in order to get a job, it was too late. But then, how would we have been able to get proper lab time when there were only 4 computers between everyone in the major. Also, only one of those computers had Adobe Premiere avaliable. The rest only had Final Cut Pro. Most industry jobs want you to use Adobe. Getting my education here did not allow me to reach my full educational potential. I did not get a good enough education to make me competitive with people who were lucky enough to attend better schools. I graduated and ended up continuing to do the exact same job I did before I wasted my time and effort getting a subpar education because I couldn't get a job in my field. This school doesn't care about the success of their students. They count employment at customer service jobs as proof of their "success." I don't need to go to college to work customer service! If I had another option I would never go to this university. They preach all of these wonderful things but when it comes down to action, they show none of it. Their system that is supposed to help students get their classes organized and keep them on the right track works, but only if you need absolutely no help. I was a second away from getting a lawyer before I actually recieved any kind of direction or assistance. Come to find that there are other people I know that have similar stories of having been given no help and shrugged off or just tossed an answer that is not helpful at all. Had my father not gone to the Dean my degree would have been stunted. It would have taken another 1-2 years to complete with the advice given to me by a secretary that refused to tell me anyone I could go to for assistance. She rather throw my EXCUSED medical absence (which I have only ever had one, and it was to have my daughter) in my face as a reason to show my incompetence and that my lack of help was MY fault. Had it not been for my parents support I probably would have dropped out due to the neglect and disrespect that I have been give from the people at this university. Not to mention they put someone in charge of a girls sports team who had been previously charged at their university with sexual assault. I have so many more examples from others around me that have had similar issues and have been ignored or bounced around from person to person when asking for academic...
