It is a beautiful plaza with the basilica on one side and several colonial balconies on the other 3 sides. Many restaurants and cafés on the balconies offer great views of the park. The one problem with this place are the touts that keep offering tour and food services. They frequently cut tourists off their path. Most will stop insisting politely with a refusal, but every so on they get annoyed when we say no and they block our way purposely. At some point it gets seriously tiring to have to say "no" every 20 meters, so we end up being a lot firmer and louder which some won't take well. This ruins the experience since we cannot simply just take a walk without being bothered.

The plaza is simply magical. The stonework and architecture inspire wonder. It’s easy to see why it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The white volcanic rock creates for a unique look throughout the plaza and surrounding area. Walking through, you will find locals and tourists relaxing and enjoying the area. There is a lovely fountain, palms and colorful plants, and benches throughout Visiting inside the cathedral is a must. They have some restrictions on dress - so make sure to wear conservative clothing. A guy in front of us tried to pull his shorts lower and cover his shoulders but it wasn’t enough to get in. Plan ahead and you will be fine.

The Mirador de Yanahuara, is a must-visit spot in the charming district of Yanahuara, Arequipa. This site is not just an overlook but also a beautiful plaza that offers stunning views of the city and its surrounding volcanoes. Whether visited during the day or at night, the overlook provides breathtaking panoramic views of Arequipa. The sight of the city against the backdrop of its majestic volcanoes is a highlight that leaves visitors in awe. The plaza itself is one of the most beautiful in Arequipa, and perhaps one of the best I’ve encountered. The area around the overlook is perfect for a leisurely stroll, offering a safe and serene environment where you can fully immerse yourself in the local atmosphere. There are excellent dining options nearby, making it convenient to enjoy a meal while taking in the views. The entire district of Yanahuara is a pleasure to explore, with its picturesque streets and welcoming ambiance. For anyone looking to experience Arequipa at its best, a visit to the Yanahuara Scenic Overlook is essential. Yanahuara is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful districts in the city, and this overlook is its crowning jewel.

Durante el periodo prehispánico, el poblado más importante de Arequipa era Yanahuara formando la colonia, a este lugar se le puso varios nombres primero se llamó Chimba que quiere decir la otra orilla del río porque estaba compuesto por el poblado de Cayma hasta Tiabaya; después se le nombró como San Juan Bautista de Chimba se queda con ese nombre porque su patrón tenía dicho nombre. Y por último se le nombra como Yanahuara que significaría "calzón negro" pues aquí habitaban los indios yanahuaras quienes eran los más representativos de ese tiempo. Desde 1605 los españoles querían rebautizar las zona como la Nueva Zegovia. En el lugar se encontraron grandes cosas como bayeta, jergas, ponchos y más, se le conoció por ser un lugar de textilería de producción y capacitación, realizada por uno de los tejedores famosos Francisco López Ballesteros, además sirve de inspiración para aquellos maestros textiles de arte mestizo arequipeño. El 8 de noviembre de 1870 se le declara a Yanahuara como Villa junto a Tiabaya (uno de los distritos más antiguos y legales de Arequipa). En la actualidad este forma parte de uno de los 29 distritos de la Ciudda Blanca y se caracteriza por sus angostas calles, su templo colonial, el Convento de San Juan Bautista y el famoso Mirador. Como sabemos Arequipa es una zona sísmica, por tanto suceden varios movimientos telúricos más fuertes en las fechas de 1942, 1979 y 2001 sin embargo el mirador de Yanahuara resistió a todas. Si vas a visitar Arequipa, el sitio más visitado y fotografiado es el mirador, pero esto no quiere decir que los demás atractivos no sean hermosos, solo que por estar en una zonas más alta y con tanta historia se convierte en uno de los lugares favoritos. El mirador de Yanahuara es una de sus arquitecturas más bellas de Arequipa, por lo que te dejo un listado de los lugares que puedes ver: Tener una buena vista de los 3 volcanes y la ciudad, definitivamente este mirador nos permite ver toda la maravillosa ciudad, ya sea que vayas de día, noche o en cualquier época la arquitectura de sus arcos y la vista serán espectaculares. Andar por las calles, resulta que casi todas las viviendas están construidas con sillar (roca volcánica de color blanco) que se encuentra en el Callejón del Cabildo y a unas cuadras más allá está la Casa Encantada muy famosa en este sitio. Pasear por la plaza de Yanahuara, su plaza es muy tranquila y embellecida con las palmeras. Se ubica al frente del mirador y son ideales para tomarse unas fotos y de paso comer el tradicional queso helado. Visitar la parroquia de San Juan Bautista de Yanahuara, conocer esta iglesia que tiene estilo barroco le hace especial porque la mayoría de los pobladores arequipeños lo solicitan como un lugar de matrimonio y bautizos. Adquirir el pasaporte de la República de Arequipa, al costado de la iglesia podrás encontrar una tienda de artesanía donde expenden varios productos y lo que llama más la atención es el Pasaporte arequipeño.

The Yanahuara overlook is definitely a spot worth visiting in Arequipa. The views over the city with El Misti volcano in the background are just amazing, a perfect place for photos and to take in the scenery. The stone arches with engravings give the place a nice authentic touch and make it feel special. For us, it was a bit difficult this day since it was a public holiday and quite crowded, but even then, the atmosphere was nice and lively. If you catch it on a quieter day, I can imagine it’s even more relaxing. Overall, a beautiful place to spend some time and enjoy the view of Arequipa

Como cambió con los años Si bien antes el Molino junto el Hotel cercano, eran las únicas atracciones turística del sitio, ahora el Molino se ha reducido a su minima expresión, sus hermoso jardines y areas verdes que lo circundaban desaparecieron, convirtiéndose en una feria pueblerina. El Molino en si, aun mantiene su prestancia, pero se accede directamente a la zona de molienda, se llega a un segundo piso donde se aprecian las enormes piedras moledoras y en la parte baja la caída de agua sobre el mecanismo de giro de estos molinos; sistema hidráulico que se abastece con agua de una acequia cercana. Para ingresar se toca la campana, las entradas tienen una tarifa la que considera tasas reducidas para adulto mayor y niños. En el entorno se han instalado Juegos mecánicos, incluso un zip liner y oferta de monta de caballos y cuatrimotos; la única recomendación es hacer una revisión previa de la seguridad en las motos, no ofrecen cascos y muchas veces los frenos no funcionan. El transporte publico es terrible, los taxis muchas veces se niegan a recoger pasajeros de retorno lo que obliga a caminar casi a caminar un kilometro hasta la zona urb

very beautiful mill we visited in the countryside of Peru. we took a bus tour and it ended in the country. we toured around the mill and rode a zip line on the premises. very fun. saw cattle and got lots of beautiful pictures. there is a gorgeous hotel that sits beside a small lake. perfect thing to do on a sunny afternoon.

Absolutely incredible place - from the authentic restoration to the nearby restaurant to the cool killing stones, a petting zoo of Alapacas, Llamas, Vicunyas, a Bull, birds - this place is an absolute must visit when I'm Arequipa. Zipline, horse riding and quadbike riding are right next door, too.

El lugar es muy bonito para recorrer, tomar algunas fotos y disfrutar la tarde. Pero se encuentra descuidado, desechos plásticos y orgánicos dentro del propio molino, no se encuentran tachos de basura en el recinto, en el trayecto del riachuelo se aprecia desechos plásticos. El área de animales tiene aves en condiciones no muy aceptables, tienen una paloma en una jaula no se aprecia muy tranquila, se ve que intenta escapar por los espacios, es una escena muy triste ver a un animal que está acostumbrado a volar de forma libre dentro de una jaula de un tamaño no ideal. Sería ideal un plan de limpieza integral, colocar tachos de basura, señalética que indique el cuidado de las diversas áreas y sobre todo analizar el estado del área de aves, que no es una escena muy bonita de ver.

Overpriced for the limited experience. Nice place for some pictures and a working watermill, but no real explenation of the whole process so it was of little added value. You can also see a few domesticated animals but that's it.
