Haraldshaugen monument is a few steps from an easy parking lot one turn from Haugesund's main road. The area is well maintained, and the monument itself is a must see. An old 1000 year old stone cross nearby is also a interesting sight. But to me this area is the starting point of a short 2km walk on the shore down to a small lighthouse. The path takes you through sheep country, where the smell and breeze of the sea makes for a great ambiance. I did a walk here once, as many of Haugesund's citizens, just to relax and enjoy a nice view and fresh air.

The monument has huge national significance but as a monument is a little underwhelming. The great thing about this place is what you can explore from here. Nearby is an ancient medieval cross and the walk out to the nearby lighthouse provides stunning views across the bay. The ladder up the lighthouse is a little corroded and precarious....one for the brave or stupid ..take your pick..All in all great walking using the monument as a base. In good weather this is quite a spot.

I really enjoyed Haraldshaugen. Monument of the first norwegian King. Not far away from Haugesund harbour and city center. Impressive place. Even, the old cross that represents the establishment of Christianity in Norway. Besides monumental aspects and the breathtaking environment, you can get into contact with interesting men and women there. Liked the discussions on the relation between cross and monument. Greetings from Germany!

National monument, which is located not far from the Haugesund city center. Here you can walk along seaside and see superb fjord views. There is a camping on the territiory of the monument where yuo csn have a rest on the bench. There is supermarket MENY, 5 minutes by walk, where you can buy food, drinks and eat this looking at the fjord. The entrance to the monument is free of charge. Area around monument is very clean.

It took a 25 minute level walk from Haugesund Town centre to get to the national Haraldshaugen moment. You could also travel by a cute land train. There were some explanation boards there and wide ranging coastal views. A very clean camp site is nearby and you can get hot drinks from a machine there. There are also natural coastal walks . No tickets required to see this monument.

What an interesting place. A very well thought out and equipped centre. We visited on a recent trip to Haugesand. A really well spent morning was spent exploring the centre and exhibits. The centre is a really impressive design, being built below ground. The subterranean structure is built this way to reduce its impact on the surrounding terrain. They use modern technology to enhance the visitors experience, very immersive! The staff were really friendly and very informative. Also dressed in period costumes. A highly recommended visit.

Just wonderful! I spent the whole day exploring, learning, watching videos, listening to guides. The staff everywhere were super helpful and friendly. The best ever tour guide I have ever had was Tim at the Viking Farm, he gave the most amazing live history lesson and in English he also takes the German tours! From the Nordvegen History Centre to the Viking Farm and St Olav’s Church. I loved it all! ❤️❤️

A hidden gem that is well-worth the journey. On visiting, this museum and the summer Viking Farm feels like a labour of love. This is the sort of museum provides a multi-sensory experience to spark a love of history. Great interpretation of applied history and archaeology! We spent over four hours here and the Viking Farm with a teenager and a pre-teen! Thanks!

I love history so this really floated my boat! The museum is worth a visit & it has English audio headsets & English translation plaques on the walls.
The farm was very interesting with live 'actors' who are very knowledgeable. I smelt of wood smoke for quite a while after!
It's quite a walk, about 15-20mins dependant on your ability and it's not wheelchair friendly really, loads of gravel paths, walking through woods etc. An all terrain scooter would be great though. The walk is very scenic, beautiful and very windy and cold! The church holds interesting history also as well as the doomsday needle outside leaning towards the wall of the church - if it touches the church wall we're all doomed I tell you!!! I think the guide says it's 14cm away atm. The guide was again very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. Reasonable prices for Norway so worth the visit.

A fascinating insight into how the Vikings must have lived, in a most beautiful setting. I do wish that the staff wearing Viking costume had been a little bit more ‘interactive’ and informative with visitors on an ad hoc, proactive basis (as is the case with all other costumed historical parks we have been to), rather than just sitting round a table drinking coffee, chatting to each other and accepting payment, but it seemed that they only ‘acted’ in their Viking roles during scheduled tours, which did not suit our busy schedule and so we had to move on.
It is a good idea to wear wellie boots that you won’t mind getting covered in sheep droppings, because these are everywhere. Not a complaint - just a tip for others.

What a breathtaking place to truly see the way of vikings. I wish I could live here myself. Seeing the young children there working, going to school, was really eye opening. We paid for a tour here when we got off of our cruise ship, and are so glad we did! We learned so many new things, got a chance to view the beautiful area on the farm, and the Viking guide was AMAZING! We would listen to him talk all day if we could! Don't miss this on your next visit to Norway! My only advice would be to visit on your own and not through a cruise shore excursion, as those are very rushed and you can't take everything in like you could if you visited Norway on your own and got to choose how long you visit places!

Visited here through Viking Adventures.
Tour started with a walk to the boat (5 mins) which then takes you to the viking village. The boat section is about 30 mins with narration from the guide. At the village we were guided around by one of the villagers who gave a great account of viking village life. After the tour we only had around 10 mins before having to head back to the boat, would have liked longer. All of the structures were open for you to walk around freely, they do have open fires so keep smaller kids close by.
This tour then takes you back on the boat to go to the viking planet museum.in the town centre.

We visited the farm on a recent visit to Norway. A really enjoyable visit, giving us a real look and feel into viking era life. The staff were great, friendly and very informative. We enjoyed walking around the site and exploring the various buildings. We didn't have time to visit the boat house which was a shame, but didn't detract from our visit. The only downside were some fellow visitors who decided to talk loudly over the staff. Although a quick shushing stopped this. Very rude!!!
