Bumpkins — Restaurant in Antigua

I visited Bumpkins about 15 minutes ago and just wish I had paid attention to the other reviews before going here. I knew as soon as I stepped foot at the bar that I was about to make a mistake ordering here but i went ahead anyway (hindsight is a beautiful thing). Staff were arguing amongst themselves at the bar and everything seemed so chaotic! We waited 45 minutes for a cheese burger and calamari's. After 45 minutes we asked the waitress how long it would be and she said another 5 minutes. After about 15 minutes we asked again and they said they will check and come back to us. Nothing! Another 10 minutes or so passed and I decided to go to the bar again to say I need it in the next few minutes or a refund. The food eventually came out and to say it was not worth the wait would be an understatement. Fries were barely cooked but the burger was dry and overcooked. The waitress led me to the bar where I thought I was getting a refund for waiting so long. Wrong! They tried to charge me again. I couldn't believe it! Safe to say i will not be returning. Do the right thing and go to Catherine's at the other end of the beach. Seamless service and the food, albeit slightly more expensive, is very very good. Definitely not worth it, worst place we've eaten at on the island.

Slow, mediocre food, unpleasant service.

Waited an hour for our food to arrrive, had to keep telling them that we had a boat to catch, eventually got it as a takeaway after lots of nagging. Ordered 1/4 jerk chicken and 'bumpkin fries'. Absolutely wasn't jerk chicken just some grilled chicken breast. And the fries had absolutely nothing special to have a special name and was a very small portion.

Then had to nag for the bill, even though they knew we were in a rush, at this point my husband had already left to hold the boat, I worked out how much we owed myself, told them I had left that amount on the table because they just weren't able to do simple maths. Left and was chased down the beach to be told we hadn't left the 15% service charge! That not only we weren't told was compulsory but also What service?! an hour to take away a grilled chicken breast with no flavour!

There's plenty of much nicer places...

I wandered in here at about 1pm one Sunday looking for some takeout food and the young lady cleaning the (empty) tables seemed completely surprised that a potential customer had walked in. She confirmed I could get food and yes they were open, but that was it, completely unenthusiastically. Another lady behind the bar called me over and took my order for burger and fries and said it would be 15 minutes. 25 minutes later it arrived and off I went.
