China Rose Restaurant — Restaurant in Autonomous City of Buenos Aires

Love their front door! Probably will return.

Tour bus stopped at Chinatown, and many riders were leaving. Why not, we haven’t have lunch yet.

It's a short walk from the bus stop to the arch, which I think is the best looking Chinatown: trees lined pedestrian only street, and it’s clean, and hip. Street food shops. Most people are not Asians. And most of them are young: A good hang out place.

According to the tour bus recordings, Buenos Aires saw rush of Chinese immigrants, from Taiwan began to arrive 1980s, and followed by the main land in 1990s.

One thing we noticed quickly, neither Yelp nor Google can keep up with the changing pace here: a couple of restaurants we thought we’d like to go (such as Cantina China) are no longer in business. So we went to Royal Mansion. A young Chinese couple just came out and the man was still beautifying his tooth with a toothpick. A very promising sign… but unfortunately they don’t take credit card. It’s a substantial establishment, at least two floors. Oh well.

So we ended up here, at China Rose. We actually passed by it and didn’t see any Asians were dinning, the first time around. Oh well, we became the Asian -:)

The only two places I saw are busy in Chinatown, with many Asians are supermarkets.

At Rose: high ceiling. Clean and modern decor. Menu has English as well as Chinese, aside from Spanish. A lovely patio at the back - it’s not open at the moment when we went. Full bar. No chopsticks were offered. Very good service.

We’ve two dishes, both tasted ok, too heavy with corn starch and NOT sweet:

braised tofu 家常豆腐, pretty good; but the sesame oil isn’t too appetizing shredded pork with fish flavor 鱼香肉丝: the size of the pork is huge, like French fries. Gosh. And they added vinegar... But it beats out sweet -:) The tofu was hot, which meant they cooked the pork first and served them together. Chinese dishes are served one by one, is the norm. But I noticed it, the US, especially at banquets, dishes are served simultaneously. Oh well! Little Irene can't fight the huge tide.

We were so excited to discover that Buenos Aires has its own Chinatown, so we took a taxi and headed over right away. The area was fun and vibrant, full of color and energy. We arrived a little early in the day, so we were thrilled to find that China Rose was already open and ready to welcome guests.

The restaurant is absolutely massive and truly stunning. It is beautifully decorated with rich colors, elegant touches, and a lot of attention to detail. From the moment we stepped inside, it felt inviting and special.

The service was fast, friendly, and very kind. The staff made us feel comfortable right away, and they were attentive without ever being intrusive. It was a smooth and pleasant dining experience from start to finish.

We ordered a variety of dishes including stirfry pork, kung fu chicken, shrimp fried rice, and chicken noodles. For our kids, we asked for the noodles without any vegetables, and the kitchen was more than happy to accommodate our request. Every single dish was absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and well balanced, and the portions were generous. You could tell everything was freshly made and prepared with care.

China Rose was such a wonderful surprise and a real highlight of our visit to Chinatown. Mi restaurante favorito desde hace años en el Barrio Chino. Mantiene una atmósfera muy contemporánea, con su decoración y sus boxes. Platos de alta calidad y abundantes, no dejen de probar el chaw fan mixto, el cerdo pekin o las carnes grilladas, que llegan en una pequeña parrillita a la mesa. Buenos vinos a buen precio, mozos y camareras muy amables y super profesionales. Deberían restaurar o mantener mejor los baños, ya que han hecho una gran inversión en los mismos y seguramente por algunos energúmenos, se encuentran monocomandos rotos o servicios que no funcionan. Entiendo que debe ser cansador para los propietarios arreglar todo lo que rompen las personas que no saben convivir con el prójimo, pero luego lo sufrimos los clientes incondicionales. Sigan así, siempre excelentes!

Volvi ayer, sábado 21 de mayo 2022 y puedo decir que sigo manteniendo mi más alta calificación. Además, creo que han mejorado muchisimo el timing para atender al cliente, desde la recepción del mismo, hasta el manejo de la reserva, la limpieza de las mesas, manteles de cuero y algo que los clientes de siempre extrañabamos: las servilletas de tela!! Se siguen los protocolos de limpieza, con alcohol, tanto en las mesas como en el fajinado de cubiertos y platos. Buen ambiente, acogedor, camareras muy cordiales y amables, y platos muy buenos, bien servidos y sabrosos. Si te asomas a la cocina semiabierta, verás trabajando a un verdadero cocinero chino y muchas veces, incluso los dueños. Atmosfera moderna, buenos precios, buena comida...larga vida a China Rose!! PD: pidan el salteado de vegetales con pak choi, increible!
