La Americana on Av. Callao in Buenos Aires turned out to be an unexpected gem during our stay. We decided to pop in for a quick bite despite it being a chain restaurant, as we typically prefer more authentic dining experiences. However, our visit was a delightful surprise.
The food we sampled here was nothing short of spectacular. Not only were the pizzas delicious, but the empanadas were truly out of this world. And when it came to desserts, they didn't disappoint either; each sweet treat was fresh and mouthwateringly delicious.
This place quickly became our go-to spot for a late-night bite when we were in the mood for something scrumptious after the initial fullness of dinner had worn off. While I can't speak for all their locations, I can wholeheartedly recommend this particular one.
Our visit was made even more memorable thanks to the warm welcome by the manager, Jose, and the exceptional service provided by Ernesto. These two went above and beyond to make our dining experience enjoyable and memorable.

Read moreLa Americana on Av. Callao in Buenos Aires has great empanadas and pizzas. We stopped by this place for lunch after coming out of a guided tour of the Palacio del Congreso de la Nación Argentina. The service was excellent and the food delicious. The fried empanadas are amazing with crust that were rich, buttery and subtly salty. The finely chopped chicken filling was juicy with a balanced flavor that lingered just long enough to make me want another bite. The slices of pizza had thick, “bready” crust with creamy mozzarella. The two Napolitana with fresh tomato slices were juicy, aromatic, and herbaceous. The anchovies and green olives slice was thick and cheesy with a salty, briny Mediterranean flair.
Overall, it was a great lunch at a joint that offered excellent service, and great food...
Read moreA few years ago I had what has remained the best empanada I've ever eaten in Argentina - a large criolla with chunks of juicy beef instead of ground beef and not a small amount of spice. The juice dripped down my fingers and my chin. Delicious. I've heard the salteñas are good, too.
I'd never tried the pizza until this past weekend. We got a Calabresa Completa, which meant sliced tomatoes, mozzarella, loganiza, olives, and provencal spices. Crunchy crust, rather than crispy. It was fine. Fresh , decent quality ingredients. Maybe a shade better than Guerrin but it's just Argentine-style pizza not I'm not likely to get worked up about it.
The server asked us after we ordered if we wanted finita or thin crust. This surprised me to get a choice. We choice traditional. Maybe next time...
