I recently had the pleasure of dining at Somos Asado with my parents and I can’t stop raving about it! Tucked away in Villa Crespo, this family-owned restaurant is a true hidden gem that I discovered completely by chance, thanks to a local recommendation. The restaurent is the famly's old clothing factory and is much bigger than it looks from the outside, very authentic place. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality by Gustavo and his wife Verónica, who are the heart and soul of this place.
The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a beautifully designed interior and a lovely patio that makes for a perfect dining experience. It’s clear that they’ve put a lot of love into creating a welcoming space for their guests. The service was seamless; the staff were attentive without being intrusive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal.
Now, let’s talk about the food! If you’re a steak lover, you absolutely have to try their dry-aged meat it’s some of the best I’ve ever had! Cooked to perfection in their traditional clay oven, each bite was bursting with flavor and tenderness. I also started with the beetroot dish, cant remember the name but it was delish. It was beautifully presented and packed with delicious flavors that set the tone for the rest of the meal.
For dessert, we had the cheesecake and I couldn’t resist trying the flan, and niether disappointed. Both were creamy, rich, with just the right amount of sweetness, definitely one of the highlights of my visit. The portions are generous, so come hungry!
What really stood out to me was the warm, friendly atmosphere that made me feel like part of the family. It’s not just about the food here; it’s about the experience. With great prices for such high-quality meals, Somos Asado is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy fantastic food in a beautiful setting. I can’t wait to return! There's some unusual reviews here that pull the score down, deffos a 5 star place. Hopefully I'll get to come...
Read moreIf you like queueing, decent meats and ticking the box 'been there', skip reading this review and go to Don Julio or La Cabrera. If you're a hard core meat lover, and prefer to focus on what is on your plate, give SOMOS ASADO a go. Don't get distracted by the very simple, almost austere / clinical environment. I sat on one of the stools right in front of the dueno, to observe and ask questions. I asked for the best cut, and got that 50-day dry aged T-bone steak (see pics). The process of aging evaporates moisture and break down the connective tissue, resulting in a concentration of flavors and are more tender meat. The meat was grilled orthodoxically on pure lena or charcoal and came with grilled vegetables and sweet potatoes. The sides themselves are worth the visit. Crispy and crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The meat was packed with flavors and served rare, nearly bleue (as it should be for my taste, though locals like it al Punto). My feast was concluded with a house flan flanked by dulce de leche. A 5 star experience, I told the dueno not to change anything (at the exception of the lighting which leaves a lot to be desired). Enough...
Read morePerhaps the worst steakhouse experience in Argentina. I ordered few drinks, few appetizers, and ribeye steak (ojo de bife, madurado). For additional context, my steak alone was 42 USD (42200 ARS). I specifically used the word 'medio' (for medium) when asked for steak's doneness. When the steak came out, it was completely blue (azul) inside. My server did not even ask how is my steak to ask the doneness. Manager came by after she saw that I was not really eating my steak. She asked how things are going for me. I told her that my steak is too blue. She apologized and took my steak away. When this happens at steakhouses, they usually cook a new piece to a perfect cook level given the price point of the steakhouses, or they take the wrong steak out from your bill since it was not something as you ordered. But oh my gosh!! The manager took my steak back to the grill (which is not sanitary at all...) and returned the steak after cooking a little bit more, which was already cut with my knife . Given that you can go to parillas in this area like El Patio or Don Perico for around 35 USD for two people, I will not be returning here. Very very...
