Read moreThe web site of La Hosteria, Cariló, shrewdly disguises a poorly maintained, aging facility.||== The room I got would required approximately three full-time days of maintenance to get it to a minimum comfort:||(a) the balcony door did not open;||(b) the shower/bathtub faucet was stuck on shower only, could not get ware through the faucet proper;||(c) the sheets were not clean on arrival, had to have the beds remade;||(d) the room did nto mathc the website photos for the price category;||(e) the safe box in the closet was non fuctional upon arrival; once repaired, it was cumbersome to operate.||(f) the shower/bathtub had no curtain, but a fixed small glass panel. Showering flooded the bathroom everytime.||(g) There were no toiletries as advertised in the web site.||||== The buffet breakfast was meager, below standard. Very limited choices, generally unhealthy. Fresh fruit was offered on occasion during my nine-day stay. The croissants were good, though.||||== The "Tiramisu" restaurant (same location as breakfast buffet) is particularly mediocre, a rarity in Argentina that has high culinary standards. We had four dinners there, because of late arrival or inclement weather. All entrees were mediocre and overpriced. Service was below contempt, all inexperienced amateurism, they seemed students on summer jobs. On one occasion, fist course was served 45 minutes after we were seated at the table. The one acceptable exception was the "flan" (Spanish custard) for dessert, that was good.||||== The recliners and chaise-longs about the (miniature) pool were generally out order, in poor shape, and insufficient for the number of guests wishing to use them. However, the espresso served by the pool side was good, well prepared.||||There were essentially no lounges or spaces to relax comfortable, none. One had to be a prisoner in one's (malfunctioning) room.||||I have seldom, if ever, been so mislead by the reservations personnel with whom I spoke in detailed before making the reservation. Similarly, do not belive the website...
We spent a very happy long weekend at La Hostería, Cariló in August 2010. ||||We are a family with two young children (2 yrs and 1 yr). We wanted something that would be child-friendly but also offer us the chance to relax. Some friends had recommended this place. La Hostería worked perfectly for what we needed.||||We particularly liked:||- the friendly staff. It is a medium-sized hotel, but had a family-run feel.||- the room. Good size. We had a duplex, meaning a king size for us and singles upstairs for the children, both en suite, both with small balconies. Nicely decorated - good combination of modern (TV, DVD with about 1500 films to choose from) and homely. Very clean.||- the location. Convenient for the beach (5 min walk) and the village (10 min walk).||- the restaurant. Surprisingly good.||||Nice to have the option of the spa. And it's kid-friendly until 6 pm (which is a bit of a mixed blessing!). It's pretty small though, so when it's cold outside (we were there over a winter weekend) it seems to get pretty busy. I imagine that's less of an issue in summer though, since they have a small outside pool too and the beach is close by.||||There were all sorts of activities available for adults and children alike, despite it being mid winter. We didn't have time to participate, but the programme sounded fun.||||There was a small (though relatively unexciting) playground for the kids.||||Overall, very glad to have visited - both La Hostería and Cariló (another pleasant surprise). We'd definitely recommend it to friends, and will probably go...
Javier Romera...
