I really want to love this bakery. The food looks amazing—fresh bread, a great selection of cakes, and a variety of delicious-looking pastries. But the service? Honestly, it’s the worst I’ve experienced in a bakery.
I had actually stopped going for a while because of how rude the staff were, particularly one person who seems to make it their mission to rush people out the door. I recently gave it another shot, hoping things had improved, but unfortunately, nothing has changed.
Every time I walk in, I feel like I have to know exactly what I want before I even step through the door. There’s no chance to browse, no moment to take in the selection—because before you can even look properly, you’re being spoken at. And not in a friendly way, but in that hurried, impersonal, ‘get in, get out’ tone. It’s like being served at a market stall rather than a bakery.
If this person is working, I genuinely hesitate before going in because I know the experience is going to be unpleasant. My partner, who’s quite reserved, gets it even worse—they’re consistently rude to him, to the point that it feels personal.
And it’s not just the rushing. Three times now, I’ve politely declined when asked if I want my bread sliced, and three times they have gone ahead and tried to slice it anyway. When I stop them, I get the look—like I’m the one being difficult.
It’s frustrating because the food is clearly excellent, but the experience of actually buying it is so unpleasant that I rarely bother anymore. I just wish I could enjoy this bakery without feeling like I’m being shoved out the door the moment I step inside.
Two stars for the food but I honestly dread going in and it’s only going to be a...
Read moreFood quality: Bake Bakery is an outstanding local bakery with a large selection of breads, sweets and savoury goods. They also have a coffee machine and sandwich bar. I go in almost every week and pick a roll to make a sandwich with and it's always filled to the brim. Staff will put on whatever you like and there is a large range of meats and salads to add. Only a few sauces though. The hot savoury pies/pasties/sausage rolls/kranskies are all top notch. They're large, full of filling and taste great. The kranskies used to be thicker and not as long, now they seem to be thinner but longer. Vanilla slices here are amazing and they usually have normal ones and then a unique one to try. Recently they had a farmers union iced coffee flavour and it was really good. This is one of the best bakeries in Adelaide and even Australia and I highly recommend it.
Speed of service: Fast, though can be very busy at times resulting in a small wait.
Service Quality: Staff are very friendly, attentive and accommodating.
Ambiance: Has recently had a small renovation/make over with a new layout and displays. Looks good / more modern and has more space for customers and staff to move around.
Price: Average - Roughly $6 for a savoury hot pastry
Hygiene and cleanliness: Very clean room.

Read moreRead moreWhat is happening with Bake Bakery? We used to absolutely love their pies and pasties. For the last 13 or so years, my family members visited the Seacombe shop 2-3 x a week, every week! We 'targeted' their pies, but also enjoyed the great selection of other baked goods. However, the menu, availability and quality of their pies and pasties is clearly deteriorating... First, a few years ago they removed one of their top pies, chicken and mushroom (a best seller according to their own bench staff!). More recently, they removed all their individual quiches and the breakfast danish (which were great!!) and it is now almost impossible to find a gourmet or popular pie, regardless of the time you visit. Do you like butter chicken or potato pie? Good luck with that, you will probably have to choose between kidney and cornish pastie. Or go elsewhere. Today, my only option at 12:30pm was to try a lamb gyros, just to find out the filling had 80% yogurt and hardly any lamb. That should be called 'Greek yogurt pie' instead. Please take this review as constructive feedback and please bring back your great pies...
