The venue itself is nice, and Darcie was helpful throughout the planning process, which I appreciated. However, the experience on the day of my 30th was quite disappointing.
When we were shown the terrace as our event space, we were told that we would have access to both the terraces outdoor and indoor space, along with our own dedicated bar. But upon arrival, we were informed that the indoor space was booked with Charlie’s Diner patrons until 7:30 pm, despite our event starting at 6:30 pm. While I understand the venue may have had a larger number of diners, this shouldn’t have affected our booking, especially since the event timing was communicated in advance, and Darcie and I had been emailing two weeks prior to the event and no changes were communicated to me.
What made it worse was that even after 7:30 pm, when the patrons had left, their dirty dishes, cutlery, and cups were left scattered across the tables. No one came to clean the area for some time, and when my mum asked for the space to be cleared, she was told, “We’ll see if we can get to it.” She had to insist that this response wasn’t acceptable — the space was meant to be ours, and waiting around for it to be cleaned shouldn't have been an option.
The bar area, which was supposed to be dedicated solely to our event, quickly became a dumping ground for dirty glasses. Throughout the night, unwashed glasses piled up—sometimes several cups high—making the space look neglected and uninviting.
The register my guests were using was meant to be dedicated to my event, but unfortunately, they were also serving Charlie’s Diner guests, which slowed down service significantly. I was disappointed that nothing was done to block off the area or indicate that the space was private for our event. One of my guests even mentioned that, despite being next in line at the bar, they were asked to step aside so a Charlie’s Diner patron could be served first. It was confusing and frustrating, especially since we were paying customers as well — the only difference being that our drinks were on a tab. To make matters worse, the EFTPOS machine wasn’t plugged in, causing delays and making it difficult for people to get drinks.
Service was also lacking — there seemed to be only one waitress, and instead of circulating the room with food before placing it on a table (as I was told would happen), the food was just left on a table, leaving my family to distribute it themselves. On top of that, no one came in to clear the space, and dirty cups piled up until I had to ask for someone to clean up.
I understand that it might have been a busy night, but if the venue can’t deliver on what was promised, it creates a frustrating and underwhelming experience. Hosting an event should feel special, not stressful. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend this venue for anyone looking for a smooth,...
Read moreWe were having a lovely family night when the duty manager came over to tell us we needed to leave as they required the booth. They explained the booking was 1.5hours. I then proceeded to show him the website which clearly states 2 hours for Friday and Saturday dinner. He explained that this had been changed. This is false advertising. You charge more for the Friday and Saturday sitting yet have now changed the timeframe to the same as every other night. It is not our fault the restaurant was double booked and they were having to consistently direct people to the bar to wait for tables. We booked based on the information on your website The manager then tried to tell us we were told on arriving...again we were not and nor were the 5 other bookings in front of us. We spent close to $300 tonight and to be kicked out is an absolute disgrace! I then asked for the metro hotels managers name and contact information which he said he couldn't provide and instead i would have to contact venue co. I found the qr business card on the reception after being told they had no business cards. All in all the deception, being kicked out and the overall ending of the night that resulted my 8 year old additional needs daughter in tears because she hadn't finished and was being rushed was disgusting. We will not be returning nor recommending to any other families especially those with additional needs children that may require a...
Read moreWe came here for a birthday and I have to say the renovations look great. The venue is beautiful, and the booth we were in was lovely. Unfortunately no staff said happy birthday on arrival. It took awhile to get in to the restaurant as a customer was fumbling with their card and holding up the line. This probably has us not at our table until almost 12 when our booking was 11 45. This wasn’t really too much of an issue until we were informed at 1245 we only had 30 min left before having to leave.I find this rude considering there was so many free tables and staff should have accommodated for that delay. 1.5 hours at the best of times isn’t long enough why isn’t it 2? Bar staff were friendly, waitresses didn’t smile once. They actually looked rather unhappy being there. Most of the food was good, chef was friendly and informative. A lot of dishes could use a bit of seasoning though. Also the mapo tofu, if you fried that a bit before putting in the sauce it would be so good.
Overall the experience was kind of ruined by the feeling of needing to rush and the lack of friendliness. Also the same waitress who ushered us along also asked us 20 min later if we were waiting for a table while waiting near bar on the way out. Kind of shows the girls really aren’t paying attention to their customers, just ushering them on to get more money from new customers. Definitely didn’t get our $42 each worth, how could we in an...
