If you’re looking for genuine North Indian cuisine with a local welcoming feel that doesn’t break the bank then the British Raj is the place for you. Centrally located on Henley Beach Road parking is available throughout the day so this place is convenient for lunch or dinner. The British Raj is highly acclaimed, so much so that the National Indian cricket team regularly dine there because of its “traditional feel”.
Walking into this welcoming restaurant there were smiles everywhere, our waiter Chellan was no exception. Straight away Chellan got to the point, filling up our waters. Being ready to serve from 5 pm-9 pm the stoves and pots were already warmed and the food came out flying. I was very satisfied because there was a constant flow of full-bodied delectable Indian delights. We had a three-course meal starting with the samosas.
The Samosas were packed full of goodness, ranging from of the poached potato to the spice frenzy giving is a perfectly balanced taste. This all was packed into the crisp outside of the flour-based pastry which gave it another level of flavour; adding crunch to the already soothing feel of the vegetables carefully crammed inside this amazing delicate delight.
If you had the skill to stop yourself filling up on the samosas then you would be welcomed with the next dish, Chicken Tikka. The Chicken Tikka is boneless chicken seasoned in a variety of spices like; red chilli powder, ginger, garlic paste and lemon juice. Also being tenderised in yoghurt makes this dish one of my favourites and one to try. Although I love this dish the one thing that lets it down is being dry. This sounding like a big deal does not make much of a difference being served with lots of sauces to make your tastebuds explode. Overall this by far this is my favourite dish and would be highly recommended to enjoy this as entrée to entertain.
I love chicken, I love them as pets, I love the fact that they give us delicious eggs and most importantly I love how chicken tastes! The Butter Chicken is no exception; with the soft creamy and smooth feel that leaves a taste-making, you want more. With little balls of red floating on top giving studded flavour empowered by the plain body of this dish. After eating all the chicken you’ll be upset but then the rice speaks to you “Dowse me in the sauce… dowse me… with all the sauce”. This might sound like I’m crazing having the rice speak to me but no; it opens up a new...
Read moreWorse experience ever - visited two weeks ago.
Service was unprofessional - on a table of 8 we had 7 plates. Asked for another one. Waited 30 minutes for our food (fair enough) but got it in instalment. 3 curries and 5 minutes later naan bread and a few minutes later reminder of our curries. We had to ask for cutlery - the lady came with fork and knife - to which very humbly I asked - can I have spoon please ? She said you asked for cutlery and instead should have asked for spoons - arrogance and rudeness.
To make it absolutely worse - I provided the main lady with some feedback that we had horrible experience starting from waiting period for food to hospitality and food quality. Shocking response was given - sir as you can see we were really busy and you did not book a table. Are you serious - what difference would that have made and we waited for an hour to have a table. So if I had booked a table they would have cooked food in advance and would have given us good hospitality???? I responded that it is not good enough - perhaps should have more staff to handle busy period like this and this would give your business a bad name. To this she stated that we are here for last 12 years. So having a business for 12 years and you still don’t know how to take feedback - shocking facts hey!!!
Absolute waste of time and money - never ever going there again. Keep your business (12 years)...
Read moreThere’s no doubt this place does great food BUT the area that needs some attention is their takeaway service & the time frames they are giving customers to wait. This is not based on a single visit, this is based over consecutive visits over a long time frame. Consistently I am told pick up In 30 mins, I go there & am waiting at least another 30 mins. The last occasion the restaurant was not busy at all & most tables had food that I could see, yet the wait for pre ordered takeaway was double the given time frame. The most extreme was I was given a 30 min pick up time & I waited over an hour & so did the person next to me, we were both very disappointed, in fact possibly forgotten, by that time it’s late & nearly bed time. As I mentioned the food is great but it leaves a bit of sour taste in your mouth when the anticipated collection time blows out by so much repeatedly. Occasionally it is on time and I guess I could just order earlier & expect the wait to be longer. Anyhow hopefully this review is constructive as it’s an improvement that is probably easily fixed to make a big difference to...
