I came in for a business meeting with a client and ordered my usual: oat milk flat white, extra hot—because lukewarm ambition isn’t my thing. First sip: not extra hot. So after a few minutes of chatting (because my client actually distracted me as I was deciding to get up to ask for a remake) I walked up and politely said: “Excuse me, could you please remake this coffee the way I asked for it?” No attitude. No drama. Just clear, respectful communication. The barista’s response? “Really? Five minutes later?” Cue the eye-roll tone. Then, while I was in the bathroom, that same barista had a very loud rant about me to the owner—within earshot of my client. Not exactly the atmosphere you want when you’re hosting a meeting. Some people mistake confidence for confrontation. But here’s the good bit: we approached the owner to share what happened, and to his credit—he was genuinely apologetic. So in the end, we left with a smile. We’ll come back again, not out of obligation, but to give the place another shot—and hopefully rewrite the first impression. Because everyone deserves a second chance… including baristas having a bad day.

Lunch at @elementary_coffee in Torrensville: they have a cool and modern ambiance with an industrial flair. It wasn't very busy when we went, and service was quick and friendly. The food was good but could have some room for improvement in our opinion. . House waffles with popcorn chicken, finger lime salt, yuzu emulsion, rocket, fermented miso garlic dressing, fried egg: the fried chicken was excellent! But unfortunately the waffle was soft and quite dough-y. There wasn't a lot of sauce, and there was no maple syrup. As a result, it was quite dry. It could be better if there was a serving of maple syrup 🙂🙂. . Kimchi fritters, togarashi tonkatsu, kewpie, seaweed salad, pickled ginger, fried egg: this was really tasty! Full of really yummy flavours 😍😍. Just wish the portion was bigger. . Drinks: - Cloudy apple juice - Cold brew

Only open a week and already causing a stir. First coffee I had here was the BEST I have had since Bar 9 days. The beans described as having a chocolatey, caramel finish produced a super smooth and sweet flat white. Naturally I was keen to sample the introductory menu on a follow up visit. On this occasion the coffee was not at the same level; the finish was a little sour. Smashed avo dish for $20 was ok without blowing the socks off; one egg was slightly overcooked, two pieces of bread are preferred and the black rice didn't work (for me anyway). But overall, the fit out at this venue is neat, clean, airy and appealing. Staff are dealing with a more frantic start to trading than expected but were good. When the full menu comes out soon this place is sure to be a 5 STAR winner.

This morning I took my daughter to Elementary for breakfast. The service was terrible. I’ve been to Elementary this was my third time now and every time I’ve come, I’ve been disappointed. The first time I came was with friends, second time with my son and now to be fair, I took my daughter. I was greeted initially by a gentleman making coffee, but then service dropped off. Staff have no people skills. I ordered a coffee and requested twice that it be hot. Coffee came out the same time as my food and I wish I snapped a photo of the mess that was presented on my plate. My coffee was cold. I ordered poached eggs with avocado on sourdough bread. The bread looked like sliced bread and the eggs were practically raw! I couldn’t eat it. I was still charged after I sent it back as the food came out cold. I gave my plate to a young lady working there and she was rude and had zero people skills whatsoever. I’ve worked in HR and recruitment for over 10 years and I walked out of this breakfast spot this morning 100% certain that I will never return. I wouldn’t return even if breakfast was free for a month. The staff are half asleep but I’m not surprised as wait time for a coffee is a standard 20...
