Carnivore Henley Beach offers a fantastic dining experience, particularly if you're a meat lover. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the owner, Robbie, who made us feel right at home. He was not only welcoming but also took the time to chat with us, a gesture that continued throughout the night as he checked in to ensure our meal was perfect and that we had everything we needed. The rest of the wait staff mirrored Robbie's enthusiasm, making the experience even more enjoyableâthey genuinely seemed to be having as much fun as we were!
Dining as a group of four hungry men, we started with a couple of 750-gram rib eyes to really test the kitchen's skills. The steaks were made from Coorong Black Angus Beef, which set the expectation for quality right from the start. They were reverse-seared, basted in garlic butter, and chargrilled on an open flame. The steaks were served with rosemary sea salt in a red gum smoke-filled cloche, adding an impressive visual and aromatic element to the experience. We ordered the steaks rare, medium rare, and medium, and I was impressed by how perfectly each one was cookedâsomething I havenât seen done so consistently before. I decided to add lobster as a topper to one of the rib eyes, curious about the hype, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The lobster was tender, buttery, and added a luxurious touch that not only enhanced the visual appeal but also became the star of the night.
We didnât stop there. We also shared a mega meats platter, which featured pork ribs, deep-fried chicken wings, and slow-cooked pulled pork, accompanied by crunchy, house-made slaw and pickles. The pork ribs, topped with a delicious sauce, were my personal favourite on the platter.
Throughout the evening, we enjoyed their in-house lager, which was nicely sweet, and explored Carnivore's impressive selection of wines and spirits. The variety on offer ensures that thereâs something for everyone to enjoy.
To top off the meal, I had an affogato, which might have been the best one Iâve ever had. It was served with Frangelico liqueur, which added a delightful nutty sweetness that perfectly complemented the rich espresso and creamy ice cream. This combination provided a flawless finish to an already outstanding meal.
The atmosphere at Carnivore Henley Beach is warm and inviting, with a modern yet comfortable vibe that makes it a great spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. The attentive and knowledgeable staff, combined with the quality of the food, made for an exceptional dining experience.
If youâre in the area and looking for a place that delivers on its promise of top-quality meat, Carnivore Henley Beach is definitely worth a visit. I highly recommend the rib eye if you're after a satisfying and flavourful meal, and donât miss the chance to try the lobster topperâitâs a game-changer! And if you have room for dessert, the affogato with Frangelico...
Read moreI had high expectations for this place and was really looking forward to coming here for months. Firstly, I loved the atmosphere and that they accepted our booking 30mins before hand on a Sunday. The staff were soooo lovely, professional and quite fast. Unfortunately the food was quite disappointing for the prices. This is a break down.
We were sat down and got asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. We opted for still water. We thought like most restaurants this was free. We found out when we saw our receipt it wasnât $10 for a bottle đ. Wish we were presented with an option of just tap/table water.
ENTREES: Focaccia $16- this came presented in some smoke illusion which was cool but it was sooo disappointing to see what it revealed - two small slices of bread cut from a loaf. It looked like about $3 worth (not exaggerating). The bone marrow butter was delicious though so we forgot about the cost of the slices of bread.
Chorizo $22: 1 chorizo sliced down in half on 4 or so chopped up olives. Looked about $5 worth at the most. It looked chargrilled or something.
The steaks we ordered -strip loin and scotch $57 and $70+ were unaccompanied. Just steak and garnish. So we ordered potatoes on the side: it was nice and hot but to be honest it was a dry.
The steaks were cocked to perfection but a little tasteless and we found ourselves adding salt over and over again to get some flavour. Great sea salt though.
Drinks we got were great. â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
Over all the place had great vibes and was packed but the food was a let down for the price. Weâve been to many restaurants and arenât shy when it comes to spending but we do appreciate when efforts is made to make the food worth the price. We hoped for something we couldnât do at home ourselves. Thatâs why we went out. Total cost $200+
Might be back in a few months to see if things are better for the price in terms of portion because at this time, you would not get full on just a main, a side and drink.
To the owner: my biggest advise would be to review the portions. We wouldâve loved if the mains came with something. Options: seasonal veggies, mash with some jus or sauce etc.
Hope this review is taken as intended; with love and care and not meant to discourage. See you next...
Read moreI'm not usually one to write reviews, however the tremendous quality of the service and food has solidified Carnivore as our go-to dining recommendation.
From the moment we booked, the team went above and beyond to make our evening special. We booked the Matador's Lounge to host a small birthday dinner. The team treated us with such warmth and hospitality, we immediately felt like family. They were friendly, professional, and took the time to get to know us. They were happy to provide recommendations and advice regarding the menu, serving sizes, and the number of sides and entrees to get for a group of our size.
We got a selection of dishes from across the menu, with each guest enjoying a main, shared entree and shared side. The serving sizes were perfect as we were able to experience a broader variety of menu items with enough space to truly enjoy and appreciate the next item. Each item was perfectly timed, with food arriving in a reasonable timeframe, hot, fresh, and perfectly plated despite the restaurant being busy and us being a group booking. We were incredibly impressed by the consistency of quality across the dishes, from the ingredients themselves through to the composition of each dish, and the beautiful presentation. My husband and I shared the Tomohawk with bone marrow butter and gourmet mushrooms & black truffle, onion rings, and the pear and rocket salad. We enjoyed every element of this meal, and regret being too full to finish it!
We would like to extend a special thank you to Robby, Roman, Frank and Tristan for their attentive service, kindness, and for making this one of our best nights out yet! We would also like to extend our appreciation to the staff we didn't meet this visit but look forward to meeting next time, and of course the incredibly skilled team in the kitchen and behind the bar. We truly look forward to our next visit. Hospitality can be an incredibly demanding and unforgiving industry, but we experinced a team that is passionate about what they do and are dedicated to quality...
