Nice steak at Exeter hotel 🏨
Ben O. VerbichBen O. Verbich
Visited on the 16/01/2021 for dinner. Ordered four items from the menu, and I have included the hotel's menu description: 1. Seafood Plate ($34) - beer battered fish, scallops, salt & pepper squid, king prawns w/ chips, tartare & lemon The seafood plate description says king prawns, the prawns we received were not king prawns. They were very similar to Asian grocery frozen prawns that have been pre-cooked and snap frozen. If the hotel would like to improve, they should google king prawns and click the images tab to get an idea of what king prawns are. The fish that is part of it are three fish tender looking things and the serving of the chips was toddler-sized. 2. 350g porterhouse ($35) - also known as sirloin, this prime cut is aged for a minimum of 8 weeks to ensure tenderness & taste satisfaction. Known for its clean fresh flavour with no fatty after taste The porterhouse was supposed to be medium rare, it was not (see pictures). More like rare and the steak was dry which was surprising for how rare it was. There was also a lot of fat on this particular steak (see pictures), and did not look like a good cut. 3. Kids meal - chicken nuggets w/ chips & tomato sauce ($9) Kids nuggets came out as pictured. Pretty sure there were 6 nuggets, presentation wasn't great and could have used a side of salad 4. Kids meal - hawaiian pizza w/ chips & tomato sauce ($9) Pizza came out as pictured. Very poor effort on this. Aldi frozen pizza looks better and my kids love that. The pizza from Exeter must be some home brand type of frozen pizza and was rubbish for what was paid. Spent over $300 here collectively and $87 just for our meals. We all left feeling very very underwhelmed. Had no complaints about the bread rolls though. I am very surprised because the bistro was quite busy and full, not sure if it was just our meals that were not great?? I had dinner here last night. Was a bit disappointed for a couple of reasons which I’ll outline below. Firstly, I had to order using the NFC QR code reader and then browser on my phone. There didn’t seem to be an option to simply order and pay with card. This is a growing trend in hospitality and whilst it may be convenient for the restaurant, it is not convenient for those of us who prefer to maintain some privacy. It’s also not convenient for most seniors and anyone who doesn’t own a smart phone. My second disappointment was the food and cocktail. The garlic bread was great. The steak was mediocre to say the least - cooked rare not medium rare, and very chewy. The cocktail I ordered was so weak I couldn’t taste the alcohol, only the Coke. Which isn’t right given it was a Long Island Ice Tea. The young girls serving were nice, but I’d rate the overall experience as pretty poor. I was also abused by some drunk next door for leaving my lights on in my car when I arrived, and parked for a little longer than what he thought necessary. Made me feel quite nervous given he came back out again when I left. Overall a pretty disappointing experience in comparison to my expectations, which were based on online reviews rather than entitlement lol

Overpriced slop, and they can't get anything right.

Massive wait times, the server Sierra smashed a plate at our table and barely apologised, didn't check if we were ok when a slice of it hit my leg and they didn't even clean all of it up, and I saw staff members spill food on the floor when serving customers.

They wouldn't serve my dad his drink that he wanted even thought they had it there and he was sober and obvs of age, no excuse for that. The salad bar is abismal, mostly bland carbs and the curry chickpea thing was utter shit, totally inedible. They didn't refill the potato bake salad tray the entire time we were there which was 2 hours and it was empty.

They forgot the gravy with my birthday brother's $46 steak which was undercooked, and his drink cost a whopping $26 for a schooner. my $34 schnitzel was rubbery and overcooked / burned with heaps of gristle, and they said to my dad they had roast pork when they don't even serve that and he got served beef without warning which he doesn't even eat when he had wanted pork. Kids meals very overrpriced with only one hodge poge option for $15, when other places have kids meals for $10-12.

Such a disappointing birthday meal, we...
