I’ve wanted to go to this Café for quite some time and finally, accidentally I might add, but a positive mistake, we ended up here for brunch when the place we’d been heading to, was closed on Sundays. I thought the ambience here was so lovely, bright and sunny with wetlands and even a community walking track (obviously put to good use!) on one side and a view of Hampstead Rd, on the other. But the whole Café is like a Conservatory, with glass all round, so 360 deg. views of whatever side takes your fancy. The staff were lovely: attentive, quick and efficient while still friendly, approachable and flexible. Because we were umming and aahing over what to have there? Brunch partner had a Smoothie, which she enjoyed and felt was much lighter than others with coconut milk, which they had explained there. I had a good coffee and a wholesome muffin, to start off, and then we shared a Reuben. It was tasty, albeit a little over cooked. It happens. We enjoyed a little slice of inviting, picturesque heaven while we partook at this Café, but although we really enjoyed this oasis out on Hampstead Rd unexpectedly, I did feel it was expensive for the size of serves. Fifty odd dollars for a shared brunch for two… I felt was up there! However, I will go again for good coffee and a wholesome Muffin and Smoothie, out in the burbs with a view. Oh, they do Pizza oven Pizzas on Fridays! Pizza with views. Yum. Might have to check it out...
Read moreNice place with a decking area overlooking a reserve. I've always wanted to try this place as it is nearby and had a very high rating. Alas, I believe the high rating is more due to their coffee range, rather than their food.
Meals are pricey, and for the higher prices, I either expect larger portions or the the food to be exceptional. Neither was the case (I understand there may be a higher cost to be a health-conscious, zero waste cafe).
I had the Keto meal - tasty, but nothing too special about it. The nitrite-free bacon was tasty but was ~3/4 fat (which goes against the healthy Keto focus). The coconut bread was different and quite tasty, but was dry and crumbly and really dries up the mouth.
The sticky rice with coconut milk was very tasty, but again serving size was small (and the hard, green kiwi fruit ruin the balance with its sharp acidity)
I've been to other healthy/alternative cafes which I quite enjoy dining at occasionally, but this one left me under whelmed (and very hungry...
Read moreIkigai Café is more than just a place to eat—it’s warm, inviting, and the kind of spot that makes you want to stay a while. My wife and I stopped by for breakfast, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit.
She had the Bounty Smoothie — fluffy rich, creamy, and refreshing, like dessert with a healthy twist. Her poached eggs on toast were cooked to perfection, with golden yolks flowing over rustic bread. I went for the chilli scrambled eggs which are on a buttery croissant —fluffy, mildly spicy, and flavourful. Paired with a smooth Flat White, it was the perfect start to the day.
With its relaxed vibe and thoughtful touches, Ikigai Café is ideal for a quick coffee or a laid-back brunch. Highly recommend it if you’re in the area!
Photo - Not a great one as we were late and hungry enough for me to forget clicking...
