Look the old saying a place is only as good the last meal you had is probably true for the Old Bush Inn after we recently had dinner there. It was disappointing and real let down. We ordered basic fare from the memu, schnitzel & steak burger. Steak burger was so stringy & tough it was inedible. The "veal schnitzel" was a thin veneer of the toughest beef heavily coated with a thick tastless crust of crumbing. As I had ordered a parmigiana it was dressed in a tomato sauce with cheese. I think the sauce was just tomato paste spread on the schnitzel with some sort of basic cheese, not mozzarella like it should be. Very poor quailty food. The ingredients used obviously of the cheapest. We didn't finish our meals and after complaining to staff who's response was we'll let the chef know. I get annoyed that you pay good money and you get rubbish. I can't understand why these establishments short term attitude is to ripp people off. Food is pricey, so why don't you serve up a quality decent meal? I can say staff are friendly & courteous however it's not the complete that dinnng experience we set out for at the start of the evening. I can only say the Bush Inn should stay in the bush, we'll be definitely be giving...
Read moreAs a long-time regular, I’ve always appreciated the charm of this place, but the recent change in ownership has been disappointing. The iconic Steak and Red night on Wednesdays may still be on the menu, but last night’s meal was the worst I’ve had in years.
My medium-rare steak was anything but—it arrived burnt on the outside, overcooked inside, and was both dry and tasteless. The accompanying pepper gravy, though peppery, lacked depth, and the salad was shockingly uninspired: a chunk of iceberg lettuce with a sprinkle of garnish and dressing—bland and lazy at best.
The menu claimed the steak came with a sauce of your choice, yet I was charged an unexpected $3 for the sauce (which I didn’t even eat). When I raised this at the counter, I was met with an excuse that “staff were busy,” and the charge wasn’t waived.
On the drinks front, while there’s an extensive selection of wines, both local and international, most are marked up by over 100%, making it hard to justify.
With two other pubs in Willunga, I’d recommend heading to the middle pub instead—you’ll likely have a much...
Read moreI took my wife here for lunch on her recommendation. I can see why she wanted to go back.
Firstly the ambience: inside felt and looked like a cozy log wood cabin. Had a very unique overall vibe. Secondly the staff: absolutely sensational. Everyone we interacted with appeared very genuine and happy. It was really refreshing! Lastly but not least, the food: goodness me, I couldn’t flaw it. The salad of my Whiting meal was presented in such a unique and visually appealing way - but importantly tasted less like a generic salad. The whiting itself was cooked so perfectly, the melted like butter in my mouth. My wife’s steak made for tough competition! I don’t normally do steak when going out because I’m fussy with how it’s cooked. The chefs here must be commended for how perfect their medium cooked steak turned out. Honestly amazing. The value for money is worth it!
We have already recommended it to some of our family and most of our friends; even so far as to make plans with said friends and family to...
