Willunga Bakery
Steak & Mushroom pie $5.20
I've visited this bakery plenty of times in the past. I haven't been here in a while so here's an updated review.
The presentation of the pie looked all right, baked in a foil container, there was some shrinkage. Had a pale golden look to the lid. The pastry looked to be baked ok, top, sides and base - did have a pale colour look to it. The pastry wasn't flakey, nice and soft to bite into.
Biting into the pie, the flavours were all there, a nice amount of mushroom, the mince was seasoned nicely, no grissle. The meat to gravy ratio was spot on, same with the consistency. The only let down, the stability of the pie, about 3 bites into the pie, it went flat like a pancake. The serving temp could have been a touch hotter (last time the pies were nuclear 🔥) and the pie held up together. It was a nice tasting pie, just the pastry stability was a small let down for me.
I did address the pancaking, apparently the pie wasn't in the warmer for long enough. I must admit, I was there bang on opening time. I'm sure some of you will have your ideas about this.
A middle of the road pie.
There are some outdoor tables and seating also.

Read moreWe visited the Willunga Bakery for lunch and picked up some Sausage Rolls (3) for 2 Adults and a teenager. The staff didn't seem very interested in serving us and we had to tap on the counter and make it obvious that we were not happy about being ignored before someone decided to end their personal conversation and serve us. We left with 3 Sausage rolls - which turned out to be dry, greasy and tasteless. Dry, as in the when you take a bite, the pastry was hard and fell apart. Greasy, as in left a greasy coating on the roof of your mouth which was quite unpleasant and tasteless, completely devoid of any seasoning. These tasted like they quite possibly may have been frozen at some point in their life. I have had much better Sausage Rolls from the local supermarket (heated at home in the microwave) and from Petrol stations. I would not recommend and we will not...
Read moreA charmingly rustic bakery with such a massive variety, you will have to make multiple visits just to try everything on offer. From biscuits to donuts, cupcakes, brownies and every style of pie you could possibly ask for (with or without sauce!) are all on offer at this wonderful (vanilla) slice of heaven.
And if the variety doesn't capture you, the generous portions that are worth their weight in gold won't set you back a fortune. $14 for a sausage roll, two heaping swerves of chocolate brownie and a three pack of biscuits was a wonderful surprise, in an age wherein many other places are arbitrarily raising their prices almost prohibitively.
