This was our favorite place for pho for probably the last 10 years. It changed hands and has reopened with new management. This review was from our first - and last - visit there under the new management.
When we walked in we were not acknowledged by the staff at the front counter and after standing and waiting for awhile, took it upon ourselves to find and arrange our own seating (table of 5).
After we were seated, we waited a while for menus. Eventually getting up and collecting our own from the front counter.
A staff member came to our table with a can of soft drink we did not order. We explained it was not ours and she took it to the correct table.
We ordered and waited about 20 mins for our meal.
While we were waiting a cockroach climbed up a door doorframe. We found this a bit alarming, and then noted another one crawling across the floor. I got the attention of one of the staff, advised him of the problem. He took a cursory glance across the floor and returned to back of house leaving the cockroach where it was (I assume he could not see it). One of our party got up and killed it. Eew.
One of the tables we were seated at was dirty from the previous guests. It remained dirty throughout the visit - neither staff taking time to wuipe it down while we were sitting at it.
A staff member then came to our table with a meal we had not ordered. We explained it was not ours and he took it to the correct table.
A few minutes later, another staff member came to our table with two more meals, insisting they were ours. Neither of them were things we had ordered.
At this point we opted to get up and go elsewhere.
We went to NNQ. Got swift, professional service, and a good meal.
We will not be back.
Management - please do the public a favour and give your staff basic training in customer service! Teach them to acknowledge customers when they come in. Teach them to clean tables when guests sit down and they are dirty. Teach them to get customer orders right. And please, please - take care of your vermin problem. This was a birthday celebration for us - just another day at the restaurant for you guys maybe, but our experience was ruined by your clueless staff who didnt have the first idea about how to treat...
Read moreI love finding what I call 'hole in the wall' type restaurants. A more accurate term might be eateries, these no frills, come as you are places of food fullfillment, where you go to get a good feed. This was such a place, popped in the corner of a bank of businesses on Grand Junction Road.
You could see that the place was popular with the locals, a steady stream of punters getting their favourite dish. I ordered the combination pho which is my go to benchmark to judge a place on. The stock was tasty and complex, an excellent base of which a fine example of Pho was built apon. Extra bean sprouts were provided when they ran out, without prompting I might add, to go along with fresh chilli, coriander and basil. Plenty of meaty ingrediants in the bowl, was a hearty delight that was a delicious decision.
I did like the extra desserts and additions that were at the counter for takeaway. Didn't grab anything because I was so full! Will definitely look to return when I am out...
Read moreJust another pho place. There is nothing special about it. The broth has that beef flavour but lacks any real depth. They don't use authentic siracha either (I think it is a Masterfoods chilli sauce), which isn't the same when you want little dipping sauce for your meat. Unfortunately, while the meat tasted good, there wasn't much of it. The dims sims have a a bit of a weird flavour to them and weren't my thing. The interesting part was the bowl size. We both ordered pho, and both ordered extra large at $22, but the bowl size was completely different. As a 1st time customer, this isn't great service and was very confusing as to why one bowl was considerably bigger than the other. There are much better pho just down the road. I'd recommend going...
