Redgum — Restaurant in Adelaide

Well im gonna start with Im easily pleased. Tonight was the worst restaurant experience i have ever had. I always loved going to the red gum for take away or eat in, but tonight was nothing short of appalling. I arrived at 6:30pm for our pre booked table for 3 adults, 1 child and a baby in a pram. We decided to have a nice meal out for my birthday, nobody wants to wash dishes on their birthday but apparently the waiting staff at red gum are too pompous to do their job, i waitied for them to take my order actually had to ask them to take our order, then we waited and waited ....and waited we got a bowl of soup.. hooray which was lovely, now when serving a hot bowl of soup you'd think you dont go over a babys head to serve, but obviously the bright spark of a waitress thought that was a good idea...hmmm nonetheless ate the soup which was delicious and then the wait began again..we waited and waited and waited and then 1 of the waiting staff asked how our food was we politely replied with what food we havent been served it ( this was a little amusing i admit we chuckled to ourself bless her she didnt even look at the table) then we waited some more then the holy grail of our entree arrived a springroll and and a satay each phew...we were rather famished by that point... again you wouldnt believe it we waited again, now im not talking any ordinary wait especially for a restuarant that was half empty but a long ridiculous wait with no water on the table that was empty and empty glasses quarter to 8 we asked will we be getting our food tonight to which she went on her merry way and said she will check...she must of got lost we never saw her again.. okay 8pm we are pissed we have children to put to bed so we got up and walked to the counter and said we will pay for what we have had already had? Hahaha we waited again lol if i dont laugh id have to cry.. so as we waited at the desk for them to charge us the manager comes to the front counter with our food on a plate....wow just wow...if thats not taking the piss then what is?, no wonder they left us waiting at the counter another 10 mins, and then had the audacity to charge us...not sure ill return bit sad though the place has so much potential.. i will say a huge shout out to the shack pizzeria and cafe at Aldinga Beach whom supplied us with a beautiful gourmet pizza and garlic qhich we thoroughly enjoyed and still had no...

To start, it was absolutely appalling! I can’t express how ridiculous this dinner was. We had a booking for 6pm arrived on time and didn’t eat main meals until 9:07pm to be exact. The night went like this: ordered drinks 20 minutes into our reservation, ordered dinner at 6:53pm, for dinner the table ordered a banquet. We received our drinks at 7:01pm a simple lemon lime bitters… At 8:20pm we got the chicken corn soup - keep in mind the restaurant wasn’t full and takeaways are a priority - they pretty much just want us to sit there and earn money from our drinks, which we ended up refusing to continue getting drinks. At this point we had been waiting for 1 hour and 20 minutes and only received a soup… Then we waited another 30 minutes and asked how much longer dinner was going to be, with the response of I don’t know I will check. Did they check and come back to tell us how much longer? No, absolutely not.. Keep in mind we had four kids waiting to eat dinner as well. One of our kids had no dinner in the end due to it being too late and had lost all appetite. When we received dinner at 9:07 it came out in dribbles. This is not good enough. In the photos I have attached it shows that the table was not cleared during any point of our four hour session. Our table was full of glasses and the waiters would stand over us and expect us to move the plates so they could place more. At the end of the night, we had people leave before the dessert was ordered this was at 9:42pm. They then failed to provide all but sundaes to us which was included in the banquets and then refused to serve it to us. There was no compensation for this delay, no apology, no nothing. Instead they were rude, have no customer service skills and fail to provide food. This was also not the first time - last time we dined in at Redgum it was a 3 hour wait but thought we would give the benefit of the doubt. Guess we were wrong and will absolutely never return. Not only was it poor service but the bathroom was disgusting as well. No toilet paper in one cubical, and as for the other, it doesn’t lock. Honestly could not be more disappointed, disgusted, and revolted. I truly do not understand how they stay in business with this service and believe that they need to have their standards reassessed and evaluated. Prices are nearing the expensive category that can only be justified by the quality of the food and service. The menu is large which results in the food falling into the bulk service category. For example, Lemon/Honey variations being defined only by the thick flavored sauce supplied. Chicken was battered probably with the same batter as the fish with some smaller portions not actually containing any content at all. As commented elsewhere, the combination fried rice contains little more than rice and the odd pea or two. Most meals were delivered luke-warm except of course the spitting dishes. The combination rice was at room temperature and was returned for additional heating in the microwave. Mongolian steak dish was good. Staff were worked of their feet due to a large birthday group. Wait staff running around were comparable to headless chickens and was quite distracting. Restaurant required at least 2 more staff which would have eradicated long delays in receiving dishes and paying the bill when trying to leave. Surroundings were pleasant enough but bore no relationship to the cuisine served and detracted from the Chinese experience. Disappointing overall but nothing that Management could not overcome...
