⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “PAD THAI THAT’LL MAKE YOUR SOCKS WET — SUREE’S THAI KITCHEN”
Rolled into Suree’s on Unley Rd like a caveman chasing the scent of wok smoke and redemption. The joint smells like Bangkok had a baby with heaven. Orange ceilings, friendly faces, and a faint sizzle that says “you’re about to forget your ex.”
Ordered the chicken and prawn Pad Thai — no tofu, ‘cause I’m not here for rabbit food. One bite and I nearly called my mum just to tell her I’d seen God. The prawns? Plump like they’d been hitting the gym. Chicken? Tender enough to make a grown bloke blush. The noodles? Dancing around the wok like they knew they were part of history.
Then that lemon wedge came in like a halftime coach — tangy, loud, and shouting, “wake up ya lazy taste buds!” I squeezed it, and the whole dish went from great to holy shit.
Service is mint. They treat you like family — the kind of family that actually likes you. Price? Fair dinkum. For $20–$40 you’re not just eating — you’re spiritually ascending. Closes at 9:30 pm, so don’t muck about or you’ll be licking the windows.
Now picture Kevin Bloody Wilson on MasterChef, beard twitchin’, beer in hand, leanin’ over the dish:
“Holy flamin’ wombats, look at this bloody Pad Thai! You could park your ute in that noodle pile and still come back for seconds! The chicken’s softer than a pensioner’s handshake, prawns cooked deadset perfect — not rubbery, not raw, just bloody poetry with a tail on it.
That lemon wedge? That’s not garnish, that’s bloody strategy. One squeeze and boom — your tongue’s doing the Nutbush! I’d give it a standing ovation but me shorts are too tight. Suree, love — you’ve nailed it. Ten outta ten, and I’d drink the dishwater...
Read moreThe food is good and the service is quite friendly generally. However, tonight I was disappointed that my friend and I were basically pushed out towards the end of the night. We didn’t arrive until 8, but as soon as we had finished our meal, the waiter kept coming to remind us the kitchen was closing soon and did we want anything else (he asked us this twice in the space of about 10 minutes and both times we said no). The second time he asked if he could bring the bill. We said ok, but we were deeply engrossed in conversation (bear in mind this was around 9.15 and the kitchen was closed anyway, and there were still several other tables still dining). 10 minutes later he came again, interrupted our conversation and asked if we were ready to pay. It very much felt we were being pushed out. I would understand if it was earlier in the night and they wanted to clear a table for other customers, but that was not the case. I now feel reluctant to return knowing that it is not a place we can relax and enjoy a conversation knowing we will be pushed out the minute we have finished eating. Suree Thai, please consider that a dining experience is not just about eating but about enjoying the atmosphere in the company of family or friends and feeling welcome in the restaurant, not just eating, paying...
Read moreWe have frequented Suree Thai on a number of occasions over the 23 years or so we have lived nearby, both in a dine-in and take-away capacity.
Tonight we called the restaurant at about 7.45pm to order take-away, and were told the order would be ready "in about 25 minutes".
We requested that it be delayed a little, to be ready in 40minutes. The reply came "Ok we'll have it ready for you at 8.30".
We enjoy stir-fried food to be served as soon as it comes out of the wok, especially king prawns.
When we arrived at 8.20pm, happily expecting to wait a little, we discovered it had been sitting in a plastic bag "for about 5 minutes" we were told.
We let them know we were a bit surprised and disappointed - the response was "It's too hard to have food ready when the customer wants it " and "most customers don't care".
We just would have preferred that when asked for 40 minutes instead of 25 minutes, they had rather replied something like "listen we'll cook when it suits us and we'll keep it hot for whenever you get here" which would have been more accurate, and we could have made an informed decision not to proceed...
