Had heard a fair bit about this place through several reviews and so decided to check it out while waiting for my car to be repaired down the road. The cafe is quite spacious with outside seating as well. Not many tables seemed to be occupied when I approached the front counter to pick up a menu. You need to place your order at the front counter and pay in advance.
I decided to grab a table and go through the menu. When I went to the counter to place my order, it was like the hordes were let in! Suddenly, the place was busy! On returning to my table, I found an old bloke had commandeered it while his old lady was waiting in the queue.
He wandered off to another table and there was a short wait before my breakfast order was brought out (Baked eggs @$18). When placing my order with the nice, friendly young lady at the counter I requested that my coffee was served after I had finished eating.
The food wasn't very impressive but after I had finished with it the young lady who had taken my order came over to check if she could bring me my coffee. The coffee is definitely very good and one of the better one's I've had.
The cafe gets extremely busy with a lot of people coming in to get their takeaway coffee orders and they all mass by the side of the counter next to the door leading to the toilets or sit at a large bench on the side. The place seems very popular with the locals and can be a bit noisy as there's music playing in the background as well. So, the phone calls that I was hoping to get out of the way couldn't be made.
The location of the cafe is ideal and is a place to be recommended if you are looking for a nice cup of coffee. They also stock a variety of coffee beans and accessories to make coffee...
Read moreWe came in for a late breakfast today, went to order our meal, all was good - when I asked the staff for 2 coffees in takeaway cups, they refused to serve the coffee in the takeaway cups as I was eating in. I asked the staff again for the coffees to be served in the takeaway cups as my wife and I were in a rush and won't finish our coffees in time, hence we would like our coffees in the takeaway cups, the male staff member whom was serving me turned to his co-worker to confirm that it was the cafe's position that they no longer served coffees in takeaway cups for people dining at the restaurant, the co-worker confirmed saying that it was due to too much wastage. I find that excuse appalling, and ridiculous - so I didn't want to ruin the meal by engaging in any further fruitless negotiation. They said that we can order the coffee when we leave and they'll put the coffee in the takeaway cups. Absolutely absurd. This is Australia we are living in ...I have never come across any other cafes in all my time in Australia where the venue has refused to serve coffees for their customers in a takeaway cup irrespective of whether the customers is dining in or having the coffee to take out. If people are paying for the coffee, the venue should serve it the way the customer desire. Such a shame, as the food was fantastic, pity about the poor decision described. Food was 5 stars, decision on the takeaway coffee cup 0 star, I have rounded the overall rating to 3 to be fair! Hope management reconsider their position...
Read moreExcellent coffee. However the food today was average. I had the special which was a croque madam and unfortunately the toast was soggy from the bechemal and cheese. I'm not sure if that's how it should be but it was the texture of bread pudding. I think the layering and then grilling of the top cheese gave too much time for the bechamel to soak into the bread and then putting a fried egg on top sealed in all the moisture. It would have been improved by a different choice of bread type and different execution.
My partner had the Barun burger which had great flavour and nice pickles. However, the hand cut 'chips' were below average. While I appreciate the desire to cook from scratch, if the result is soft overcooked greasy chips which are sprinkled with herbs, then i would have rathered deep fried frozen French fries from a packet.
The last time I came here was a couple of years ago and I've previously always had good food experiences so this was out of the ordinary. Perhaps they have a different chef now.
Service was friendly and unpretentious. The new decor feels more moody,...
