Well to start with my wife and. myself have been going to Java hut ever since it first opened bloody years and years ago, got on great with the owner and staff, now it has new owners and may i tell you that the service was poor didn't know were we where seated or if I even made a booking, 2nd they got a couple of orders wrong and when we asked they just said we'll thats what you ordered no it wasn't but hey, 3rd i went to get some cutlery and they just started to have a wingh about us until one lady saw me and said to the others oh just wait a minute until i walked away virtually thats what i got out of it, well to put it mildly didn't enjoy the breakfast never had to explain what it was we ordered its on the bloody menu and first time ive ever caught anyone talking about you and your family behind my back, it's not like the old Java hut never had a problem with the old manager and staff in over 20 plus years, very disappointing maybe time to look for a new Cafe for Saturday and...

I haven't been back since the new owners took over. For brunch they forgot the sausage and hash browns on my 'Big Breakfast' and, by the time it was sorted, my breakfast was stone cold. There are lots of breakfast places in Gawler and surrounds. You need to be on top of your game at all times to be successful. It will be a while before I return...... if I do. Update - 9Mar25 My previous review was in 2023 and I only returned there today as my daughter booked for brunch. Four of us ordered and well, not only did I not receive the sausage or hash brown, I didn't receive any food whatsoever. I sat there for 40 minutes whilst the other 3 people ate their meals, then got a refund and left. When we first arrived, the table next to us had issues as well as, at least 3 waitresses, repeatedly apologized for the long wait and wrong meals. This place is on its way down, I'm surprised it's still in operation. I will never return, there are too many other venues in Gawler that we will...

The 2 stars here are for the young gentleman bringing customers their coffee and meals. Impeccable manners, smiley face and happy energy. I would give 5 stars but I dont believe the business as a whole deserves that.

My husband and family visited this morning and the staff completely forgot to cook an entire one of our meals? The 'owner' came out to confirm we had ordered an entree and a main of the same meal - we confirmed that was the case. 20 minutes later all the food besides the main had come out. Checked with the front counter and they hadn't even begun to cook the main. The way it felt like they were trying to turn it around on us for them not having cooked yet was disgusting and I feel like we should have listened to everyone that warned us how poor the service and attendance has become since the new owners took over. Will absolutely not be visiting again. This review...

This place used to be amazing, we went in for breakfast today and it was all round terrible! The pancakes used to be fluffy and thick, not thin and like rubber. These were so rubbery and tough nothing like they used to be, the ice cream was like ice, not creamy. The scrambled eggs were also a texture of rubber and absolutely no flavour. The food lacked the years of past where it was a staple breakfast stopping spot for us. Also the service was awful, the lady on the counter was rude and blunt, not a customer service bone in her body and the friendly faces that the place used to represent. It is a real disappointment to see it has changed as we have not been in for a few months and we won’t be coming back. Such a disappointing breakfast, save your money and go elsewhere if you want an enjoyable meal and the correct adjustments made to it.

Having not been to Java hut for a while I must say the standard has severely diminished, we have been going to Java hut 3-5 times a year for around 10 years, the breakfast has always been perfectly cooked & not greasy at all, one of our favourites whenever we get up to Gawler. However that is no longer the case, no table service, 40 minute wait for greasy/oily food, margarine instead of butter, it’s the small things that make a big difference. We got what we always get, mega big breakfast & the big breakfast both with fried eggs, my wife’s eggs came out very over cooked with both yolks burst, greasy oily bacon which had a sour taste, cold toast with margarine on it. We were heartily disappointed & will no longer be patrons of The Java hut in the future, the new owners have ruined what used to be one of the best breakfasts in SA.

We went there today for a late breakfast. Ended up being lunch as we waited well over an hour and 15 minutes for our food. We were told a 45-minute wait when we ordered. We only had three people on our table. The place is usually packed full, but there were empty tables and lots of people waiting for their food. The staff were polite enough, and when the food came out, the portion size was smaller than last time I ate there. The food seemed to be the same quality. Not enough people cooking, no communication between kitchen staff. Under new management since November, apparently, but it is clearly still having teething problems. Lots of flies. I don't know if a back door was open, but we spent the entire visit swatting them away. I'll be waiting a while before I return, as this was not an enjoyable experience.
