Went to the Unley this week. I was very excited because I hadn't been there for over 15 years. Whilst the food was lovely and the servings generous, in my seafood basket my first prawn had some of the 'poop shoot' still in it. So I didn't eat any of the others. The service left a lot to be desired. We had to sit at the front bar because there was a function upstairs. That was fine. We were just having a casual family dinner anyway. I asked to see the front bar menu and was told there wasn't one. We had to pay the upstairs restaurant prices for a front bar. I have never heard of this in any hotel. I'm happy to pay restaurant prices if I'm sitting in a restaurant but not if I'm sitting at the front bar. There's no ambience, it's very sterile. I asked what the chef's specials were and told there weren't any. (?????) The food took a while and it was only because I knew there was a function upstairs that I knew the reason. Our plates were not cleared, despite the waitress coming over and asking if our food was okay. I asked for a pepper grinder and was given a salt and pepper shaker (???). I gave up. Sadly, won't be back. And, neither will the four people that I was with. Luckily I was in good company so we enjoyed the evening. I can't imagine anyone popping in on their way home from work for a quick beer at the front bar and paying $27 for a burger or $30 for a steak sandwich. It cost $188.00 for five people (no drinks - just table water) to sit at the front bar. Very disappointing. I didn't bother to say anything to the waitresses about the food. What's the point? Just won't be back. I guess from the other reviews it's a 'hit or miss' type of pub now. Luckily I was paying the bill myself so my guests didn't need to worry about that. Bit sad really because I loved this pub...
Read moreCame here on a whim to play the pokies last night with a friend. It’s a charming pub and the staff are very friendly and offer great service. But the chairs in the pokie room are the most uncomfortable chairs both my friend and I have ever sat on in a pokie room or even in our entire lives for that matter. They are bulky and tall with the foot rest half way up the chair so for someone short they’re not only impossible to get up on but it’s definitely unsafe to even attempt it. I have mobility issues so without using my walking stick in one hand and holding the pokie machine with my other hand to try and inch my way up on the chair I wouldn’t have been able to even get on the chair. Once on the chair it didn’t get any better either. You can’t even fit both feet on the foot railing mid way up the chair. So unfortunately we will not be coming back because we like to play the pokies but the chairs make it absolutely impossible to be comfortable. I asked the staff member if they get many elderly people during the day in the pokie room (as most pokie room have many elderly during the day) and they said just a handful of regulars who ask them to remove the chairs and use there mobility walkers to sit on. I said it’s definitely because of the chairs because there is no way in the world a short elderly lady would be able to get onto these chairs safely. It really is a shame because this is a lovely little pub. I really hope that management read this review and seriously consider replacing the pokie room chairs, they are an accident...
Read moreI just wanted to extend the biggest thank you possible to you and your venue staff. My 21st went even better than I could have imagined, and it was all thanks to you guys!
I was extremely pleased with the organisation stage - all my questions were answered promptly, and it was very easy to organise exactly what I needed to have a great night. I dropped in a few times before the night to visit. Your space is wonderfully colourful, spacious and fun, and the food and drinks were very tasty.
The staff made the entire night run smoothly. Chris was always on the ball and willing to help me with anything. Josh assisted me with finding a laptop to play photos from, as well as being very easily accessible. Bree (Brie?) very cheerfully made cocktails all night, meaning my guests felt catered for (and the cocktails were delicious!). And Tim provided some wonderful knowledge/entertainment at the end of the night, as well as providing fantastic bar service. There were other staff members who helped us, but I unfortunately didn't get everyone's names! The wait staff, kitchen staff, and security were all equally pleasant and helpful in making the night run smoothly.
I was especially thankful for the length of time we were able to stay and enjoy the night. It ended at just the right time, and many of my friends commented that they were surprised that we weren't asked to leave much earlier! I was also very thankful to the staff for doing all the cleanup for us!
Overall, I cannot sing your praises enough....
