The Captain of Aireys — Restaurant in Aireys Inlet

Really good wood-fired pizza. We ordered a Sweet Tate pizza, which comes with walnuts, sweet potato, and goat's cheese. Normally, you'd have pre-cook the sweet potato for this kind of pizza, but I think they cut it so thinly, they were able cook everything at once. The ultra-thin sweet potato made for a very elegant pizza. The sweet, salty, nutty flavours were well balanced. The dough is so good, I'd eat just crust.

The lemon & garlic prawn pizza was not nearly as good. The prawns were perfectly cooked––they become rubbery when overcooked––but I would have liked twice as many. The accompanying rocket comes with a lemon dressing that's probably a bit more piquant than it needs to be. I'd cut the lemon to olive oil ratio by a factor of three. But all in all, still very good.

I like that the menu has basically nothing on it but pizza, and there are not too many pizzas to choose between. The confidence of a place that...

If I could I’d give 6/5 I would! Captains of Aireys will exceed all your expectations. We’ve been regulars for many years and always recommend a stop to anyone we know travelling the Great Ocean Road, having full confidence they’ll fall in love with it just as much as we have. The owners have poured their hearts and souls into this beautiful restaurant and it shows. The ambiance is fun and relaxed and the servers attentive to your needs. Their wines / local beer recommendations to pair with your meal are always spot on. The pizzas (main attraction) are sooooo delicious - wood fired, quality toppings and a wonderful range (catering for vegetarians and those with gluten intolerances). I almost don’t want to share my experience because I don’t want to ever miss out on a booking, but it’s too good to not let others in on this experience, and that it is. Happy pizza...

Best pizza, nay, food! on the Surf Coast. Kind, generous and attentive staff, incredible pizza, brilliant wine list and great local produce and drinks. It's a little drive from our place but totally worth it. The prawn and chorizo, and the pork and pear, are our fav pizzas. Everything's super fresh, flavourful and the atmosphere is perfect. Relaxed, fun, welcoming space. We feel like the red carpet is rolled out for everyone who comes in. Everyone I've recommended Captain's to laughed at how much I talked this place up until they went there - it's always "you are SO right." They cater for gluten free and veg/vegans perfectly. As a coeliac, I've never been contaminated here and it's the best GF base I've ever had (and that's saying...
