I’ve been coming to this pub for over 20 years and is a very special place to me and my family. It’s a reminder of the times I spent with my grandparents while they were still alive, and we even had my grandfathers wake here. It has a wonderful atmosphere, the beer is always 10/10 and the staff have consistently been amazing. I always remembered the food being excellent, but wow something has definitely changed. I paid just over $100 for three meals and each meal was some of the most bland, disappointing dishes I’ve had for a while.
I had the classic Parmi - it had no flavour and was just a big mouthful of nothing. The sauce was ordinary, the ham brought nothing extra and I was genuinely shocked that they could screw up the easiest dish in Australia.
My partner had the Paccheri with lamb. This was the worst out of the three. It was soggy, tasted like water, and was cold. Not sure how they made lamb taste like water, but it was absolutely dreadful. I could tell from the first mouthful he was disappointed, and after a nice time at the beach it was a sad way to end the day.
My mother had the pork special. 3 thin slices of pork (the method of cooking this made it taste like bacon) with some charred lettuce, covered in Parmesan. The whole dish tasted like cheese.
All in all 0/3 for the meals. Genuinely is so saddening to see how far the quality of the food has fallen, I remember a campaign to save this pub when it was at risk of closing. Don’t think this is what people thought they were trying to save. I really hope they fire the chef and the next time I come here the food is significantly better. Might check the reviews before I spend another $100 on awful food.
Again, atmosphere was perfect, staff were lovely and the beer is always cold - I think maybe the focus is now on the alcohol. At least they’re...
Read moreA friend and I went to aireys inlet pub last Tuesday 18th October. Yes granted we were a bit late but did call ahead first to say we would be there before the kitchen closed at 8pm. Friend wanted plain spaghetti Bol and was told only in the kids menu. So he didn't order food. However I had fish of the day he also ordered 1 VB stubby and 1 pot of coke....three things cost $50!!!!! While we were waiting for the food to come out we decided to go and have a smoke. I kid you not when I say the smokers area is in a "paddock" basically and maybe 300 to 400 metres away from the pub. There was no where undercover to stand other than in this "paddock_. Friend didn't come all the way down to the smoking area when he lit his smoke. And the young bartender that was on come out to berate him and was very disrespectful and plain rude.
When you think about it later at night there seen as there is on lighting in that area and you cannot see the smoking area from the bar If anyone had a fall or something and no one was outside to witness it this falls under RSA. And also a duty of care As does providing shelter and lighting for patrons to be able to go and enjoy a drink or two while outside having a smoke.
The meal was also very disappointing. The chips were Luke warm some were actually cold. The fish was passable. And the salad. I always though a side salad when ordering fr a pub had tomatoes onion bit of cucumber etc. All it was really was gourmet salad leaves and mixed bag of Unprepared coleslaw mix maybe.
All in all a very very disappointing experience was had and we will not be returning...
Read morePretty overall disappointing. Always a worry when the food comes out too fast. It’s a shame, being the only pub in a destination town, the standard isn’t exceptional. In fact it almost feels like due to this fact, they’ve become complacent. We ordered two mains. The roast pork, and the parmigiana. The pork was bland and had no flavour. I’ve had better in a food court. It did not taste fresh or like it had just been sliced off a roast, and looked dull and dry like it had been pre-portioned. The crackling had the impression it had been deep fried at some point and not traditionally roasted like you would at home, or expect from a country pub. The potatoes gave the same impression. The Parma was also disappointing, rubbery and lacking in flavour. The overall atmosphere of the bistro is sad. Worn furniture and threadbare carpet. Accessing this part via the bathrooms isn’t great either. Generally disappointing considering the price. I’d advise a complete reevaluation of the menu and it’s presentation, and some basic refreshments to the bistro such as better lighting, heating, speakers and to decide on a paint colour and apply it rather than the various sample shades currently on the walls. Staff could do with an increase in the level of hospitality and service. Generally felt like the bare minimum. Hate to say this, but we won’t be going back on future trips down the coast. The only reason I’m not giving a one star is for the beers which were...
